I don't hate him. Says some stupid things but they all do. Genuinely loves the game unlike a few of "our" journos who I'm sure have an agenda against it.
admittedly I haven't seen him on TV for a while but he's just way to smug and argumentitive for me, always comes across as thinking he's smarter than everyone else and his ideas are brilliant, despite not ever really having a clue.
Cunt genuinely thinks the game would fall over without him and his cronies reporting on the game. Irritates me non-stop.
Yes that is extremely aggravating. But it's also that he blindly defends the media with regard to publishing stories which are entertainment amounting to not much more than human cock-fighting, all the while claiming it's entirely the fault of the readership who apparently determine what is newsworthy and what is not. He implicitly espouses the idea that him and his cronies have a large influence on the opinions of the readers and the conversations within the game, but won't take any responsibility when said influence is detrimental or disproportionate, or both. He doesn't seem to realise that it's a positive feedback loop. If you keep telling people that a footballer taking a piss somewhere other than a toilet is important, people start to think it is.
I think he's softened up a bit in the 4 years since this, a bit less argumentative and doesn't take himself quite as seriously. Still suffers from that cuntface/smugness that every RL analsyt/journalist that never really played the highest level seems to get when they think they're saying something profound that will fix the game.
