What is the best football match you've ever seen?

I imagine I haven't really seen that many matches compared to most here and my interest in the game has certainly dwindled over the last few years but I'd say it's a toss up between Arsenal v. United at the Emirates in '07 where RVP and Henry scored in the '83rd and '90th to come back from behind and win and the Istanbul CL Final in '05 which was obviously quite sensational.

I'm using the term 'best' here from an entertainment POV and not a purely technical view of the most skilled football on display even though they both can obviously overlap.

    Istanbul. By so so much.

Deportivo against Milan in the European Cup was a great comeback.

    barca v chelsea last season.

    Turkey 3 - 2 Czech Republic at Euro 2008.

United 4-3 Citeh where Owen got the winner, or United 2-1 Arsenal in the FA cup semi final replay.

Possibly the match where Kaizer Chiefs beat United (albeit their 3rd stringers) on penalties. As a saffer you couldn't help but to will on Chiefs, and it added another to the excitement of pens.

Probably Tranmere 4-3 Southampton in the FA Cup. Or the 3-2 win away to B****n at the breezeblock in 99. Threw away a two goal lead, went down to ten men and then out of nowhere Scott Taylor popped up with a winner. In fact it's definitely that, but the Southampton is probably the best game I've ever been to from an 'objective' pov and is rolled out by sky at least once a season as part of their latest classic matches shenanigans.

    Did you watch this live?

Spain 4-3 Yugoslavia at Euro 2000 for drama
Rangers 6-1 Dunfermline in May 2003 for drama (we started the game 1 goal clear of Celtic, pendulum swung back and forward a few times that day)

In terms of sheer quality, there's a few.

AC Milan 4-0 Barcelona in the 1994 Champions League Final
Barcelona 3-1 Manchester United in the 2011 final
Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid in Mourinho's first clasico
Spain 4-0 Italy in the Euro 2012 final

All 3 performances above were good teams getting an absolute doing from great teams.

That I've been to live - probably Rangers 4-0 Celtic in April 2000. The scoreline seriously flattered Celtic that day.

Injustices - Istanbul. Liverpool were fortunate to only be 3-0 down at half time, yet end up winning the trophy. Ridiculous.
2012 Champions League final - Bayern spend 80 minutes camped in Chelsea's half, Gomez has an off night, Bayern finally score, Chelsea go up the other end, get a corner and pinch a goal. Their entire Champions League campaign was ridiculously lucky, they're comfortably the worst side to have ever won the competition.

that drogba header was more than pinching a goal. was an unbelievable header.

  14. Furball G Furball

It was the first time Chelsea had gotten out of their half the entire game.

    Got a few

    Liverpool 5-4 Alves UEFA cup
    Istanbul 05
    Fa Cup 06

I can also remember the 4-3's against Newcastle, well barely.

  16. Frizzed WC Welker

    Easily this.

    Best game period.

  17. Riddy JH Ridd

haha yeah i remember that game. swear it was like a Jelly og that won it for you.

  18. GIMH GIMH Martyn

@ Furball - Chelsea's side last season was better than Liverpool's 05 side, IMO

  19. Furball G Furball

It's a toss up. Liverpool had some genuinely impressive performances en route to the final, Chelsea jammed their way to the trophy.

  20. GIMH GIMH Martyn

Oh yeah Liverpool were very good at times in that competition. In terms of looking at the respective XIs though, I think chavs are a lot better. Liverpool had A bloody strong midfield mind you.
