Funny that the potential starter for the Lions in Youngs can't even throw straight

    WAC.

My Bismarck post wasn't that serious. He's an absolute gun with ball in hand/tackling etc, but I wouldn't say his execution of stuff like throwing and hooking is elite by any means.

Yeah, I want my hooker to be able to throw properly and straight at the line out and be a beast at the scrum first up. Ability on the ball is of secondary concern, but obviously useful. No one seems able to throw straight these days.

I'd say John Smit was actually underrated in that. He wasn't a flashy player by any means but while the SA line-out dominance with Matfield etc is often attributed to Matfield being gun, a fair portion of credit has to go to Smit. The SA line-out used to noticeably decrease in dominance back when Smit would get subbed off.

Adriaan Strauss is pretty competent at the basics too imo.

  7. Howe JHF Howe

    How's Moore done recently?

  8. Droos JP Rhodes

    Point confirmed.

He was again too shit in EVERYTHING else. He was solid in set pieces, but contributed jack shit beyond that.

IMO he is the second best hooker in the world, behind Bizzy. I know it's a big statement, but that is my honest opinion.

  9. Droos JP Rhodes

He is solid enough as he's always been, very steady performer. All round imo the best in Aus - good set pieces and decent enough work rate across the field. Polotu-Nau does more loose work, but isn't as steady at line out time, same with Faingaa.

Yeah, fair enough. He was a prop to start his career, so was never going to be that mobile a hooker.

Yeah I think a lot of people can't rate him because he's not played many Tests and he played for a crap Cheetahs team until this year. Big call but he's in the top-5 I reckon.

Haven't watched much Cheetahs this year but he seemed like their only competent players a couple years back.

Disagree completely. Hore is absolutely amazing when on the field. His biggest problem is his discipline but look at the work he does defensively in terms of stopping players from breaking the line and getting turnovers. Absolute monster in big matches aswell.

  13. Mike ML Martyn

    A. Hore is certainly the best name for a hooker.

My rugby-ignorant Mum walked in on me when I was listening to a game once and the hooker threw the ball in at the lineout. She demanded to know what kind of smut this was.

  15. MrPrez CM Dyer

Hopefully you didn't tell her that the hooker was A Hore.

But seriously I'd probably pick Bismark du Plessis as the best out of the current lot with Keven Mealamu, Rory Best and Adrian Strauss in that next group.

  17. Droos JP Rhodes

Very accurate, although personally I prefer Hore above Mealamu.
