Daly Cherry-Evans reminds me a lot of Johns. Except he's a Qlder so I like him.

  2. Benny BS Read

Maloney reminds me of Johns more personally. Maloney is my favourite rookie half in the comp. Has a John's style running game, solid defence for a half and attempts to ballplay creative in a similar way, he's just6 not quite there yet, give him time though and he'll play for NSW at some point IMO

Gidley left out? Or is there any injury or something I don't know about?

  4. Cribbage RG Cribb

He stood down from the series a week or so ago. I can't remember why but I don't actually think it was injury-related. Either way he was unavailable. :p

Did I say you said he didn't play well in the final?

I don't want to drag this out either so stop speaking shit about a Penrith player who carved up a minnow nation.

Yeah. He has a very similar body type and plays the game in a similar manner.

DCE's performance in the final was good for most of the match but the thing that I really liked was his kicking. So many people underestimate the importance of long kicking. Apart from one he overshot in the first 10 minutes, his punts were superb. He was aiming for the dead ball line, kick after kick - That's Origin stuff right there. He kicked for 600m.

@Speirz and EWS - Gidley is having knee surgery.

My 24-man Australian squad would've been:

Outside backs: Slater, Boyd, Yow Yeh, Uate, Inglis, Gasnier, Cooper.

    Halves: Lockyer, Thurston, Cronk.

    Hookers: Smith, Farah.

    Props: Civoniceva, Scott, Shillington, Gallen.

Backrowers: Bird, Harrison, Johnson, Thaiday, Myles, Parker, Lewis, Watmough.

Cooper's retired from rep footy. Lyon actually hasn't, but has made it known he'd rather not play. Agree with the rest though. Four props looks pretty light on but you've got Myles, Thaiday and Parker listed in the back row too so that'd be fine.

EDIT: Oh, and no Johnson, obv.

Yeah, forgot about Coops. Don't really need 4 centres with Lewis there anyway.

You and I have never and will never agree on Johnson because we simply disagree on what a lock is.

I'd have Beau Scott in the squad. He impressed me in Origin.

  12. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Nah. I'd have Creagh before Scott and I don't want either. And I'd probably have Taylor ahead of both.

  13. Incey BC Jacobs

Fuck everyone here underrates Glen Stewart.

  14. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Glenn Stewart is a poor man's Ashley Harrison. Both are capable ball players but Harrison is a better defender and a better metre-maker. He's also proved himself in Origin unlike Stewart.

  15. Lukic L Popovic

    What gross bias.

You fail to mention that Stewart is clearly the superior ball player in an attempt to conceal facts from the audience.

He only seems like the superior ball player because it's a role utilised by Manly. Harrison doesn't play that way for the Titans. He plays more centralised where ball playing isn't required. For QLD, it's a different story, or it was before the QRL made him play lock and took him away from the left fringe.

It's difficult to compare Harrison's and Stewart's ballplaying because they're so different in the ways they go about it.

Harrison IMO is a much more natural ball-player and would make a much better fist of playing as a genuine five-eighth if he had to because he has greater long vision and can play deep before the line. Stewart has less natural aptitude for playmaking but is probably more suited to the role as a wide-running, ball-playing second rower and he's more adept at playing at and through the line. It's not often where you get an opportunity to throw a 20m pass as a second rower playing in the fringes, or even have the time to do much of anything before the line unless you're brought in closer, so Harrison's ability to do that is often wasted anyway.

Overall I think Harrison is a much better player than Stewart because while Stewart adds a lot of creativity to the fringes of a team, he is par at best in the three crucial, non-negotiable areas of second row play - fringe defence, hole-running and relief hit-up taking. Harrison craps all over him in all those areas IMO, particularly defence.

Id probably take Stewart over Harrison these days, but each to their own.

  19. Julian BJ Taylor

Glenn Stewart is up there with Matai as the most under rated player on cricsim.

    Nathan 'God' Stapleton tbh.
