Update: 0 mins It is a lovely sunny day and the backs will be crucial in this game. A Vago vs C Golding could be a battle that determines who wins the match. Lewis vs Funkotron will be another key battle. Both teams have 2 subs each and they will both be used. E Ames has the ball and is about to kick off.
Update: 20 mins Ames puts the kick-off out to left-center. BC Darts is there and takes the ball well. The Vikings have held him up well, but the Giants players converge to form a text book maul. The Vikings forward pack is made up of some seriously large players. The maul speeds up and they are being battled to a standstill, the ball will have to be moved out now. Perry passes back to Hunt who quickly sends a mid-length spiral over the touch line. The ball went out about five metres out from half way in the Giants half. That's a long flat throw from Flack, going straight to Miokovic. The Giants certainly seem to have been practicing their lineouts! Giants RFC have done well to keep that ball up, the ref has called a maul, that's good forward play, as the Ginats patiently grind the Vikings downfield. The ball is being driven right through the middle for a good gain. The Giants outside-half instantly sees space out wide, that's a lovely cross-kick to the far sideline but Farnsworth is struggling to take the ball on the first bounce in acres of space! HE HAS MADE IT! BRILLIANT TAKE BY FANRSWORTH AFTER A STUNNING KICK FROM AMES! TRY IN THE CORNER! Ames just misses the conversion and the score is now 5-0 to the Giants.
Update: 40 mins AD Hunt gets the game underway for the Vikings. Hunt hangs a good one up for Giants RFC to contest. Parker is under it but there are an awful lot of bodies around the ball. Parker can't get a clean hold of it and it bounces behind him. Armstrong is first to the ball. At the breakdown now. Armstrong lays the ball back perfectly for his halfback. Manera picks up the ball for a quick pick and go. He does well driving a few metres downfield for Vikings before being taken down. At the breakdown now. There's no sign of the ball emerging from this pile-up, and the ref blows up for a scrum. Perry feeds the ball in, but Flack has turned the ball over for the Giants. Brilliant push from the Giants front five. BJ Gemmell takes a brilliant pick and go from the back of the scrum and makes about 10 metres. At the breakdown now. RG Cribb takes it nicely and makes a lovely pass to Ames. E Ames dummies to Golding and steps back inside. HE HAS BEATEN A HUNT AND ONLY HAS JACOBS TO BEAT. Nice tackle from Jacobs and Ames is left without support. Dafter and Funkotron get there and win that ruck for the Giants inside the Vikings 22. RG Cribb passes it back to C Golding who runs a scissors with C Kovas. That hasn’t gone anywhere. Cribb passes it back to E Ames. Drop Goal! 8-0 to the Giants. That was right on the half time whistle and the Vikings will look to come out a different team in the second half.
Update: 60 mins AD Hunt kicks off the second half of the match as the teams have just come out of the tunnel. That is a solid kick and it gives his forwards time to get to the ball. SDR Laing claims the ball with assistance from Parker and Burridge. Cribb gives the ball to Son. SON HANDS THE BALL TO FUNG! FUNG STRIDES DOWN THE SIDELINE WITH NO ONE LEFT TO BEAT. TRY FOR FUNG AND THE GIANTS! Ames gets the conversion under the posts and heads back to the half way line and the score is 15-0 to the Giants now. Hunt holds the ball up for the kick-out. Gemmell receives that kick to left-center in heavy traffic. Giants RFC try to keep control as a ruck is formed. Tight support by the Giants produces good ball for the next phase. Giants players have all loaded up to the right side of the ruck, and the Vikings don't seem to have noticed it very well. Son, Fung and Cribb are bearing down on one solitary Vikings defender, but he gets a hand on the final pass and knocks it down. Knock-on called against Son. Not the best referring decision ever! Scrum to the Vikings between the 22 and the 10 metre line in the Giants half. The players bind and Perry puts the ball in for The Vikings. They overpower the Giants scrum and push them about 3 metres downfield before clearing the ball. The Vikings keep it tight and retain possession well. JU Rocker takes the ball up to the line and sends a nice offload to Perry in the tackle. Perry drives deep into the heart of the Giants defence, and the Giants are really on the back foot now... Players commit themselves to the ruck. But the ref has called up Perry for not letting go. Penalty to the Giants.
