Possible change to OD abilities

I've been thinking of making OD abilities not *soley* about activity and partly incorporating SWPR (season-weighted post rank).

Firstly, to explain how SWPR works, it's pretty simple

Posts made in Season 1 count for 1
Posts made in Season 2 count for 2
Posts made in Season 3 count for 3

    etc etc.

You can find the ranks for it here:
    http://www.cricsim.com/swpr.php

The main reason I'm thinking of doing this is to make the abilities more closely aligned to First Class cricket, with just a bigger focus on activity rather than making it the sole criteria. I was thinking 70% activity, 30% SWPR. The downside is that it means we might not always have the most active players playing one day cricket, which could take away from the popularity of it.

I'm interested in everyone's opinions here, but I'd like to get some genuine opinions, not just opinions based on whether or not it would help you or your club. I'll be handing out spam infractions to anyone who just comes in here to comment about how it'd effect them, good or bad.

It would definitely make it more realistic by allowing a closer relationship between BS/ALC skill and HC skills. Would probably make the HC less of a 'prank' competition as some call it. At the moment, it's weird to see guys like me and Himannv dominating any sort of competition when we've done fuck all on a bigger stage.

Another advantage is I guess is helps boost up guys who were really active last season but for some reason or another haven't been on this season as much.

Sucks for me and a few other active ALC guys but overall I think it's a good idea. Any reason for the 70:30 or did you just make it up randomly?

Might be good for the older players who post here everyday but not as much as the newer ones. Will definitely follow matches closer if I have a shot of breaking into the side. So yeah, good move.

Just random really. Could easily make it 75:25 or 65:35 if I was convinced it was a good idea. :p

With the Horrigan Plate (OD reserve grade) going ahead this season it makes it less of an issue that active players would've get a game, as such, even though it'll just be auto-simmed.

I'm in favour of it. Think the current rankings fluctuate too much to be truly meaningful and are far too short-sighted in general.
As it stands, if you go away for a week or two then you'll never make the top 20 or so of activity ranks. IMO they need to reward a short-mid term activity which this will achieve.

With it largely still being 'activity' those active are rewarded (no shit!) but with the inclusion of swpr it's almost a reward for the long term contributors to the forum (Rusty for example).
Also in support of the fact it'll bring OD ability closer to FC ability which is a lot more like real life than what we currently have.

If you don't incorporate this, think there'll be semi active guys in the Horrigan Plate absolutely dominating everyone, since lots of the non active bowlers will have a bowling level of 40 and vice versa :p

I think this is important. It means that there won't be a massive difference between players FC and OD abilities which is much more realistic. The best Test Batsman are almost always for example at least good one day batsman.

It also allows more player to feel a chance in the game which will widen the interest in the comp, will help it be fully followed and respected.

Like for example, Julian keeps up with the progress on here but doesn't devote huge amounts of time only gets ranked 90th or so for activity which means his player will be hugely less effective in OD cricket, probably unrealistic to his FC ability, whereas this just makes him tangibly worse.

One of the main good things about OD cricket was that it allowed people that wern't actually that good in FC because they're new to be good at something at a better level than just seconds

This just feels like giving in to all the old posters that don't post a lot and still want to be good

It's still heavily skewed towards the newbies though

Yeah, it's not really a major change.

    Shit move, IMO.

Think OD should have different teams, like the IPL but for OD obvs

I know iv said that before but personally think it would help towards keeping the stability of FC teams in terms of amount of people leaving them just to be a subbie with mates and that

Sounds okay to me. Gives the guys who dominate a chance without being spam whores eg. Wilson.

Cunts like GYR and that will be still solid this way.

It is skewed towards anyone active rather than specifically newbies tbf.

Actually like it this way, though won't mind about 20% influence of the post count thing as well to give it more of a co-relation.
Though not too much as ODI's are supposed to be more of a young man's game and the older players retire earlier in it generally, barring some exceptions.:p

Besides that is what makes HC different from BS in terms of playing abilities.

Wouldn't it help Spam whores more this way though? Especially if they have been posting for a while?

sounds like a reasonable idea to me

I did think the current system was *slightly* too fickle, although that probably just because I faired pretty badly out of it...
