Love seeing dogs sign Salmon. Seems like they're trying the exact same rebuild tactics for a third time

I love it just because the weak gutted dog is now a Dog.

I swear the Dogs have got a 50 man squad signed up for next year.

SST has apparently signed, a lot of rumours that Connor Watson has signed.

Blake Taafe & Liam Knight have supposedly signed on too.

They're churning through. This feels like the 3rd wave had the Barett/Flanagan/naden/Vaughan/Cotric etc, working through this kikau/fox/ciraldo class. Seems to be something systemic off out there

Fucking weird day for Rugby League.

First TPJ channelled his inner Choc, announcing his immediate retirement to move into boxing...

Then Payne Haas re-signed until end of 2027.

Articles are saying $3.5M over 3 years. Which I think will be a bargain, especially once 2026, 2027 rolls round. His stalling was making me a little nervous. While I felt that he'd stay, those rumours of him rejecting $1.1M a year to wait til November was making me think he was going to take a much bigger chunk of the cap, meaning we'd lose other guys in the squad. It's going to get sketch as it is once guys like Walsh, Cobbo, Mam, Riki, Staggs and even Piakura come looking for extensions and upgrades.

It's really imperative that the Broncos pull the trigger and get a prem within the next 3 years I reckon. They are primed this year I think, while they still have Herbie and Flegler.

I don’t see them having too many issues retaining their current talent, squad isn’t stacked by any means. Staggs would be the only 3/4 on anything significant. Capewell was paid overs so that goes back into the kitty in the next 12 months, as I imagine he either takes a decent cut or moves on. Which really only leaves them with Haas and Cardigan on big money in the forwards so I think they’ve got room to move.

Where I see them struggling is avoiding paying overs so they can still upgrade the dummy half position and then halfback when Reynolds retires in the next 12-24 months.

I think they need to be careful not to overspend on the likes of Cobbo, Mam & Riki. Not sure what the general consensus is amongst Broncos fans but I’m not convinced these guys have huge ceilings.

Reece Walsh is pretty much a given at this point but Piakura is the one that stands out to me of the youngsters coming through that has massive potential, they’re the two I wouldn’t want to lose and probably willing to pay accordingly.

Thing is Cobbo and Mam in particular could command big money on the open market, and are pretty important to the Broncos ability to score points. Also, both have pretty much single handedly clutched games late in the piece they likely would have otherwise lost.

The hooking role is pretty stable for another 2 years at least. Billy isn't on heaps, and has been very solid this year, Smoothy apears quite reliable and Mozer is signed til 2025.

As for the halfback, I think they need to recognise their current blueprint; go to market and buy an established, mature and reliable half to guide thier talented, explosive but loose squad around. Preferably in their final years of their career so the price doesn't blow out. Reynolds is probably a bit of a step above what I'm describing, but that's all they need really. Reynolds is signed up to the end of 2024, but has said he wants to play at least the age of 35, which is 2025. Say he does hang up the boots; a Hunt, a Chez, a Johnson or a Hastings etc. might be looking for a sea change in the twilight of their career on a reduced figure.

Cobbo has a huge ceiling. He's not in the Folau/Inglis/Hayne/Mitchell category but he's not far off where they were at 21.

Though he lacks the all-round game of those mentioned, I reckon he could closer than we think. As far as potential goes anyway.

For instance, I think he's better at performing the ridiculous clutch play that's impossible to defend. His success rate from high margin of error plays is pretty unreal. IMO, if he wasn't so insouciant, to the point where his investment appears to be at backyard footy level, who knows what level he'd be at?

Folau lacked it too. There was nothing early to suggest he'd be more than a superstar winger

I think thats just his demeanor. Doesnt mean he doesnt work his arse off tho.

I actually feel sorry for TPJ. Gould says he's a very sensitive kid, clearly he is. And the dropping from Origin really messed him up. Only a fucking moron like Fittler would have had him in the mix; he should never have been picked only to then get dropped. And signing with the Dogs for big money was an awful idea. He needed to go to a strong club, with older forwards to mentor him, and on less money without huge expectation.

Its another one lost that couldve been prevented imo.

I would let Cobbo walk if it it's for more than 500k. For me he's your typical rocks or diamonds type player, going to give you some absolute moments of brilliance and some moments of absolute shit.

I would be more sympathetic to an overpay on Mam as the halves market isn't exactly great and for the sake of continuity in the spine given Reynolds will retire in the next 12-24 months.

He's literally already signed for more than that until 2025. Dude knocks back 4 mil to stay loyal and is being chased by 10+ clubs but yeah let him go for more than 500k haha. Ridiculous policy for a 21 year old with Origin experience and so much potential, as well as demonstrated loyalty.

    Rip Kyle Turner. 31, jeez...

I think Cobbo will fizzle. Broncos have overpaid him and Staggs, and should both be copping pay cuts next contracts. Broncos need to significantly upgrade Walsh and Mam, and if Mozer and Mariner kicks on as some expect, they'll need one too.

Lachie Miller --> Leeds. Worth an early bet for MoS I reckon.

So much chatter about Luai getting low balled at Penrith with an offer rumoured to be at a touch under 800k. I think he'll take it and stay, but I think that's at the absolute upper end of what's he's worth anyway. Unless I'm not to to date with the current cap I'd have thought an offer of 800-900 would be what a club was dangling to get him, whilst panthers would rig up a long term deal around 700~

  19. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Stupid clubs would offer him over a million. I think he is barely worth 600. Penrith would be better served putting Laurie at 6 on the min wage deal he is on, and using Luai money elsewhere.

Yeah, I think what he does will depend on what offers he can get on the open market.
