Broncos retaining Pangai is a massive mistake. They had grounds to cut him loose without compensation. He's not worth half what he's getting paid. They had a perfect opportunity to redeem some of their recruitment errors and they didn't take it.

They're the 3 I thought of. It's not like he has to be a walk up start, I don't think he's under any illusions about being a first choice half after being in and out this year and the broncos. Would love to see him end up somewhere that has a crack at finals.

Let's just wait and see how quickly that NRL integrity investigation comes to an end..

May have been a cost saving in the long run.

Tigers need a huge culture shift at the club, reports coming out of the club that the players called and intervention with their coach to talk about feeling like they are stepping on egg shells because they can be dropped at any given moment speaks to a playing group that's had far too much say for far too long.

That's not to dismiss the value of job security and trust at work but he's not sacking people from their employment, just temporarily from their role in hopefully and effort to further develop them.

Reynolds is the only player dropped who was hard done by. Benji had a shockver vs. the Titans, Garner cost us the Warriors game with shit defence and anyone else dropped except McIntyre is either completely shit or not in our plans.

Us being the 9th place specialists is the perfect place for this to happen. Not good enough to win and not shit enough for widespread change. I'm glad this shit is coming out now.

Keep Aloiai, Leilua x2, Liddle, Nofoaluma, Talau, Mikaele, Twal, Doueihi, Musgrove and McIntyre - piss the rest off.

Yeah Madge is gone. The players have won the battle. His only changes of note were swapping Brooks and Marshall and swapping Mbye and Doueihi.

... and Benji is gone while we have Brooks til 2023.

Twice we've fucked off Marshall for Brooks now. The shittest fucking cunt in the NRL for our club's greatest ever player and one of the game's legends. Fuck this.

  8. AVA T Delonge

Yeah poor Marshall getting canned twice for the same player

  9. Paddy P Orr

I'm cautiously happy we nabbed Todd Payten for coach.

Nah they had to keep him. He is an absolute gun, and the fact he plays middle and edge to a rep quality makes him even more valuable. Lockyer needs to be his mentor or whatever bullshit they are calling it, and get the cunt sorted and ready to play next year.

  11. Toolman TR Man

They'll have to put a Neuralink chip in his brain, you won't control or change him otherwise.

Apparently Brocnos have told Ofahengaue that he is free to leave.

A kid who played in their under 20s system, just reached 100 games for the club at the age of 24 and just debuted in Origin last year.

Sums up everything wrong with their recruitment and retention over past 5yrs.

That is a hot take and all, but he has also had a number of off field issues and certainly has seemed to slow this season. I don't think anyone would think he has kicked on this year, he most certainly has regressed (which is no doubt a symptom of the same issues plaguing the whole team). The recruitment and retention is horrible, but this is one of the less indicative examples of that.

Offa is a good bench prop. He isn't even close to what's wrong with the club at the moment.

  15. Toolman TR Man

Yeah he is. Too many islanders.

I agree it's a bro culture. But if the magic number is 10 they want to get rid of, they should be getting rid of Milford, Glenn, Luke, Croft, Teo, Lodge, Kennedy, Bird, Hopoate and Isucko.

He’s definitely representative of the reason why they can’t seem to build a solid core group of players at the club.

When you look at most strong clubs sides there are clusters of players who come through the grades at a similar time or at the least all debut around the same time for the club.

If we just look at the group of players Offahengaue debuted with, you’re talking 4 out of 6 ended up being RELEASED form their contracts.

    2015-2016 debutants
    - Jaydn Su’a (Released)
    - Jai Arrow (Lost)
    - Joe Offahengaue (Released*)
    - Herman Ese’ese (Released)
    - Kodi Nikorima (Released)
    - Tevita Pangai Jnr (Still with the club)

That’s representative of a club whose lost patience in their development and saw a shiny object somewhere else, whether that’s a top end recruit or a new junior coming through the ranks but there’s just such a lack of commitment to their players. All those players are now 23-25, played 50+ First Grade games and about to enter the peak of their careers... just not at the club they debuted for and every single one of those players would walk into the Broncos top 17 tomorrow.

There was an interesting article that came out in the Daily Telegraph today that showed the number of debutants currently running around in the NRL from all 16 clubs, Broncos topped that list. The next 3 clubs were the Panthers, Roosters & Storm. There’s undeniably a link between the number of players a club can bring through into First Grade and current success, the anomalies can be spoken to purely by their retention & recruitment strategy or ability to retain.

Surprising Parra has so few, thought they'd have had a decent junior pool

  19. Cribbage RG Cribb

Most Parramatta juniors leave before they debut.

  20. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh plenty of Parramatta juniors running around, Parra just don’t seem that interested in blooding them.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of a club who’s been as active as them in the market of late, maybe Newcastle.

    What’s their top 13?

    1. Gutherson (Manly)
    2. Sivo (Parra)
    3. Blake (Penrith)
    4. Jennings (Penrith)
    5. Ferguson (Cronulla)
    6. Brown (Parra)
    7. Moses (Wests)
    8. Paulo (Parra)
    9. Mahoney (Parra)

    10. RCG (Penrith)
    11. Lane (Canterbury)
    12. Matterson (Roosters)
    13. Brown (Tigers)

Almost got as many Penrith debutants as they do their own.
