Player movements and rumours

Yeah I completely agree on your first point. I dismissed the rumours at first as it seemed extremely short sighted to make a decision like that. I didn't really care for what seems like the desperation of winning a comp that sacrifices Pearce and puts the team in an unnecessarily vulnerable state. I will say this though, no one can deny that playing with Cooper Cronk for 2 years will make Mitchell Pearce a much better player both on and off the field. That is really the only point that makes me ok with this decision (if he stays obv)

As for the second point, I honestly never ever respond to people whinging about our salary cap but I will say this. To me, the NRL made a huge mistake in the latest player agreement. If the players want to effectively become shareholders of the game then the NRL should've said yes we will give you what you want but in exchange, your salaries will become public. I struggle to see how in the age of social media etc, the transparency between the NRL, clubs and the fans has not changed at all in the 15 odd years that I've been old enough to remember what's going on.

Yeah I completely agree with all of that. I think it would have been very Roosters for them to just shaft Keary when Cronk came on the market, ignoring a good purchase and a good season in favour of something that was a bit better in the short term.. but shafting Pearce instead is something else.

In terms of the cap thing, I've always thought that going through team squads and arguing that Team X or Team Y has to be over the cap is basically the lowest form of dumb fan shitposting, but there does come a point where it becomes silly, and I think we've kind of reached that point.

I don't think Easts are necessarily over the cap, but if they're not then it's just as big a problem -- that a team can just sign three halves on huge money and not have it ruin the rest of their squad if they're rich in the right way as to get around the cap. The Roosters squad would be mid-range even with mid-range halves, ffs. So I'd favour just getting rid of the cap entirely at this point -- it doesn't do what it's set out to do, and getting rid of it would at least give clubs incentive to be financial successful in any way they could, rather than just the ways that let them stay technically under the cap with third party payments and other such deals.

This is under the assumption that Pearce gets shafted right?

Not if he gets moved to 5/8 like Robbo and Nick have said he will.

Roosters have front loaded their 2018 cap this year. Politis said we were about 600k under.
Definitley something that should be banned from happening because like you said it's made a mockery of the salary cap.

  5. Julian BJ Taylor

    lol, yeah right.

That cunt would command 600k plus easy elsewhere he's not happli playing for Easts at 1/5th of his worth.

  6. Julian BJ Taylor

    You do now, yes.

So Moylan to Cronulla and Maloney to Penrith. Interesting. Sharks also chasing Pearce.

  8. Magic AJ Parker

Haha yeh, no way Isaac Liu is getting 200k either.

On the contrary there's no way we re-signed Fergo for 400k on a 1yr deal this year.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

I actually think that's a really good swap for both clubs.

Maloney brings a bucket load of experience to the Panthers and will take a lot of pressure off Cleary.

Sharks potentially get the better player and he's only just entering his prime.

Think it's a shocker for Penrith personally. Moylan is incredibly classy, one of the best decision makers in the comp I reckon.

I do get your points though Magic, short term it could prove to be a master stroke.

Amazing that Maloney is off to his 5th club given his success.

  12. Magic AJ Parker

Yeh losing Moylan is obviously shit for a number of reasons.

The best possible outcome for Penrith would be to keep him but by the sounds of it that isn't even an option and he's adamant on leaving.

Maloney has to be one of the most overrated in the comp. His attack isn't good enough to make up for the penalties and missed tackles.

  14. Julian BJ Taylor

I wouldn't be surprised at Liu playing on unders. He wouldn't have been sounded out with any big offers and they probably sign him up early.

Agreed on Fergo. Matterson could even be on less honestly, was signed as a reserve grader.

The one I don;'t understand is Nikorima on overs. Was that a panic buy?

  15. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

Must've been a bidding war with the Broncos, always going to go for overs when neither team has a salary cap I suppose.

Yeah I saw that. Fuck I wouldn’t touch Hayne with a 10 foot pole.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Hayne would need to play at either 2 or 3. Such a waste of whatever he would be expecting. Go to Melbourne cunt, then we will see how good he can be, or he will be in reserve grade.

At the time he was the Jnr Aussie #7 and that's just what top level juniors go for these days. We paid similar to re-sign Mitchell before he had played an NRL game.

We signed him believing he'd be ready for First Grade within 12 months and that he'd be the next Craig Wing. Supposedly we had tried hard to sign him 2 years earlier and O'Sullivan our recruitmwnt manager at the time was a huge fan of him so not really panicked just think they needed another spine player in the squad, and given they had just saved a bit of money from replacing Maloney with Hastings and RTS with Latrell they were probably open to spending that type of coin.

Wow I'm actually shocked and gutted about Pearce leaving
