Phil Gould Is An Over-Rated Origin Coach

So we should take him on his word? Yep...He would come out and admit the truth to it all.

If he was waiting for the next generation of talent why would he link any possible return to something that's out of his control? i.e the rearrangement of the NSWRL board. Why not just link it to personal reasons or state it for some other reason... makes absolutely no sense at all?

  3. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Because if he says its personal, and comes back when NSW have a dominant side, everyone will know what he is. Over-rated.

With all luck he'll steal Daleys chair.

    He is a good selector.

NSW never had a dominant side though when he took over, in fact both times that he took over NSW had lost the previous series.

Gould has already shown his hand and he is too stubborn and has too much self pride to go back on his word. Surely you've realised that after watching him on TV for the past few years?

    His record speaks for itself.

Sure, Gould took over in 92' after NSW lost in 91'. Do you remember who retired after the 91 series for QLD?

Yeh trust me I've read this argument a thousand times on plenty of forums.

Do you think Des Hasler would have had as good of a record if he coached instead of Gould?

Who do you think is the better origin coach, Meninga or Gould?

    Gould:

    24 games, 14 wins, 1 draw and 9 losses @ 58%

    Meninga

    11 games, 8 wins and 3 losses @ 73%

Gould lost to Vautin back in 95 when the Super League players were ineligible. That was shocking considering the relative quality of the two sides.

I don't think there's any doubting that Meninga up to this point has been a great 'coach'.

Anyway this is all irrelevant to my point that Gould hasn't left the door open to a possible return.

You didn't answer my question. Who do you think is better? And who do you consider as the best origin coach of all time?

  13. Magic AJ Parker

Origin began 10 years before I was even born... I hardly think my opinion of this would carry much weight. History seems to remember Gould as the greatest origin coach to date and I know that's the answer you're looking for but I can't say it with any conviction.

  14. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

I'm not looking for any answer. You came in defending Gould, so I wanted your opinion on it.

  15. Magic AJ Parker

    Did I?

I came in saying that he hasn't left the door open like you seem to think he has...

  16. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

He has said he would return to coaching. I'm yet to see him say he will never do it, and even if he did I wouldn't believe it.

Was on the Roast sometime last year, said he'd consider returning to club coaching but not for the NSWRL whilst certain members are still running the place and it's not hard to figure out who from his comments in the past.

  18. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

He hasn't shut the door. He is just saying not now.

  19. Ged GEC King

Meninga has coached 12 games for 8 wins and 4 losses.

I thought it was weird him only having 11 :p
