Hynes is useless when he doesn't have Trindall there to do everything. That was embarrassing.

 

I get the emotional drop after getting up to beat Penrith last week but that's an absolute choke from Easts. Potentially losing a home final in week 1 because of Wests is criminal.

Anyway, good to see a three-team shootout for the minor prem this late in the year.

 

It was definitely a big mistake from Souths letting him go but who knows what happened behind the scenes. I've seen worse retention fuck ups but it's definitely up there.

Reynolds is an interesting player because he's probably the most strict halfback in the last 20 or 30 years who has had success. I mean, he's there to kick and to organise and literally nothing else. He has little to no ball playing ability, by quality halfback standards. And an only marginally better running game before his legs failed him. For the first half of his career he genuinely could not pass left to right reliably at all. He threw more passes to ground than any 7 in the game at Souths.

And yet he's had repeated success with 4 GFs and 2 prems. Origins as well. It really goes to show how having a good side affording the halfback the purest and simplest role can work and work well. But he absolutely needs either a dynamic 1, 6 and or 9 alongside him. His short kicking game is up there with any 7 who's played the game. I would compare him to guys like Sherwin and Taylor, maybe Kimmorley, for overall play style.

 

Easts are cooked. You beat Penrith and then in the space of a week get done by the Tigers, and easily beaten by the Dolphins, both home games, with the minor premiership or at least a top 2 spot on the line? Walker out, not looking good.

Of course their attack was shite but to say DCE was a mistake is preposterous. With Walker now gone, if he's not there a red line goes through them. They still have the players to do something this year.
