    Round 16
    1. Benny - Fidel Edwards (51782)
Three good seasons on the trot, and did it all in Div 1 for good measure. Very nice pick at this point.

    2. Athlai - Tushar Imran (56186)
Hard to say, as his last two seasons have been a bit meh so he might be on the decline. Still before that he was dominating so he probably should still be OK.

    3. Alex - Axar Patel (554691)
FC record screams no-rounder quite frankly....so in that sense a poor move. ODI success might help a bit but even then it's been a while since his last ODI and his FC form in the interim has been poor. Maybe that phase for Durham might help but it's a weakish pick IMO.

    4. GoodAreasShane - Chemar Holder (914519)
Don't really rate it. His FC record is ordinary for the conditions he plays in and the sample size isn't good either (so will be n00bowned). At least he's had some A-team success.

    5. Hunter - Anthony Bramble (480693)
Coming off an excellent season last year on statistics he should be a good back-up keeping option. Nice pick.

    6. Magrat Garlick - Dawlat Zadran (516561)
The main risk is the lack of recent FC cricket. Still he had a decent World Cup which should mean it won't hurt too much. A pretty fair pick at this point.

    7. Number 11 - Iftikhar Ahmed (480603)
A bit of a shame that his T20I stuff won't count, but even despite that I think it's a sound pick at this point; he's coming off an awesome FC season and he can bowl adequately too.

    8. Gazza - Amir Hamza (402245)
Very good pick. Gunned it in his only Test and his ODI record at this point is a very good one.

    9. DVMace09 - Nicky van der Bergh (440554)
Another good pick for the second keeper role. Pretty good record in a strong competition and his recent form is sound.

    10. StephenZA - Tom Abell (462727)
A lot depends on how batting at Taunton scales, I think. His record is kinda weak on paper which will hurt but in practice I think it's OK for the conditions he bats in. Being able to bowl should help.

    11. Skippos - Sikandar Raza (299572)
Another pretty solid selection - he should give a lot of versatility to the team as he's batted everywhere in the order for the Zimbabwean team and can bowl.

    12. Baxter - Rikki Clarke (11724)
Very good pick at this point. One of the better county bowlers recently and can bat.

    13. Cabinet96 - Steven Davies (12450)
Only concern is that his most recent season was pretty poor, before that it would've been a great pick for R16. Still a pretty good pick regardless.

    14. morgieb - Rahmat Shah (533956)
My main worry is that a lot of his better international performances have come against weaker opposition so I don't really know how it might scale. Still, a pretty reasonable pick at this point given he's a top order bat with international pedigree who can bowl.

    15. Howe and Dan - Keith Barker (354441)
Was under the impression he had declined a lot in recent times but in practice he really hadn't; his stats still look rather healthy. Accordingly a good pick at this point.

    16. jimmy_c8 - Mayank Markande (1081442)
Not sure what to make of it, his record is good but there's not much to it and it came in a weak competition. Taking a 5-fer for the A-team helps however.

    17. spark!ptz - Anamul Haque (380354)
It's been a very long time since he's done something at international level which hurts. His Bangladeshi domestic record remains good however, and he's also a keeper. I think it's fair enough.

    18. Boobidy - Chris Lynn (326637)
Has been a long time since he last played FC cricket. And he's flopped whenever he's played internationals. On paper him going this late is a dream pick but I don't think it'll work out all that well in practice, alas.

    19. Chewie - Ish Sodhi (559066)
Very surprised he didn't go ages ago. His FC stats in recent times are very similar to Somerville's and Patel's, and he can bat and is a leggie for good measure. I guess he's a bit of a spud IRL but he'll be good in this.

    20. Julian - Peter Moor (333000)
The fact that he's a poor white ball player means that his solid Test performances may not have the impact they should as there's not a lot of them, but still I think it's an OK pick at this range.

    21. Phlegm - Malcolm Nofal (379860)
Has excellent stats on paper but the sample size is tiny. It might come off but if this is just a peak patch then he's basically a no-rounder. Big risk.

    22. Captain - Tendai Chatara (425639)
Very nice pick, has been quality in internationals for a while. Might hurt if he flops against Sri Lanka I guess but equally if he does well against them watch out.

    23. HeathDavisSpeed - Priyam Garg (1070180)
The tiny sample size is the main issue with this pick, as is the fact that it's only really come in Ranji cricket. Still, getting a mid-60's averaging player at this point is a fair move.

    24. MrPrez - JP Duminy (44932)
The main problem here is that he declined quite significantly towards the end of his career, still he was still a quality player for a long time up until quite recently and should still have a lot of value in this.

    Best pick:

I'm going to say Amir Hamza. A few guys come close, but he stands out in being a class spinner that probably slid for a bit too long.

    Worst pick:

I'll probably say Chemar Holder. Quite a lot of risky picks this round, however.

Unless picks fly really quickly I don't think I'll be able to do R17 or 18 unfortuantely.

Are you planning a hibernation or something?

The earliest we're seeing any real simming is Feb 1. I'm sure you can get it done by then. Hell I'll even commit to doing to the pairs by then! (I'm not doing 17-18 though because half the Round 18 picks are Dev's).

Chemar is an absolute weapon, pace movement and hostility. Fair point on lack of experience but I really get the feeling you haven't ever seen him bowl.

Admittedly this was a pick with half an eye on the future, but there is no way he is the weakest of the round

  5. morgieb MC Burridge

Going away for a month this Friday. I'll still be online but won't have access to a computer or CricketArchive which will make it hard to judge who's a good pick or not if I haven't really heard of them.

  6. morgieb MC Burridge

I like Chemar too. Just hasn't done enough in proper cricket yet alas so it'll be hard to rate him.

  7. Cribbage RG Cribb

Fair enough. I hope you can still name lineups!

  8. morgieb MC Burridge

Yeah that probably should be fine. Much less time/research intensive.

  9. Alex AJ O'Driscoll

Fun fact: 66.66% of the world alas on this forum has been in this thread. Alas.

Haha Morgie using the same little phrases and less common words is actually an under-rated part of these reviews. No-one could copy them and replicate the Morgieness.

We took the piss out of him for saying "lighting up any trees", but the other day someone bumped the CWPL version of this thread, and sure enough it was in there a few times as well.

If he doesn't outperform that fraud Feldman that is an absolute travesty. A disaster for all the human race

Having 3 R18 picks makes up for having Lomror as 1/3rd of a R18 pick.

  13. Cribbage RG Cribb

Let us all hope the sim RNG counteracts whatever real-life RNG was in force when Feldman took all those Gabba wickets.

  14. Cribbage RG Cribb

Haha yeah, but it's hard to compare the pairs when three people don't have pairs and you have a quadruple.

    for good measure too

I'd be willing to keep your seat warm and take over the review for 17 & 18 if they don't get finished before you go @morgieb

  17. Captain SSD Dong

Do it when you get back haha.

Great effort though, this thread's been fun and kept that CPL buzz going strong

Alas we may have to wait for the thrilling conclusions

Not sure I agree with any of this (except the value part lol.

Duminy didn't decline towards the end of his career, he actually performed better in his final year than his career average.

The criticism of Duminy was that he never quite performed as well as he should have with his talent - so the "quality player" part feels kinda weird too.

He was much better in ODIs, and he did slump a little in those, so that may be what you're referring to. But he still averaged 32 in his final 3 years there which could be worse at this stage of the comp.

Anyway, one of the reasons I picked him is he's a batsman who can bowl, which may become necessary at some point.
