It's definitely a goer, but it would need to be a big game, and I'm not sure CricSim is active enough at the moment for that. Babylon 5 is more likely in the short term as I suspect everyone will be equally clueless about the theme, but it would work quite well in a series of ~15 man games - much like The Wire.
I've been pretty impressed with the complexity of the ME mafia. I'm thinking of setting one up with a complicated theme. Obvious disadvantage is my lack of experience. Are there any good ones aside from the current ME game that I should read up on?
Just read up on some older games. Definitely need to play a couple of more mafia games before doing the theme I want to do.
I'd say Heef's Jurassic Park, Eds' Star Wars, Howe's LOTR are probably the best in terms of fairly complicated design that comes out well. My Battlestar Galactica one had some pretty weird little things going on too.
The original Jurassic Park game was relatively vanilla. The Jurassic Park: The Lost World game was certainly more complicated. All three Star Wars games had plenty going on and I can't really remember Howe's LOTR game. Some of the larger games in general are worth looking at - for example, Number 11's Movie Mashup was a decent game, balanced by an element of self-confessed 'bastard modding' as I recall.
Yeah besides Star Wars I've always kind of struggle to follow the huge games, particularly after I've been killed off.
In hindsight, whilst I'd tried to keep lore content to a minimum with the ME game, those with theme knowledge obviously had much more keen interest in the game than others. I think that's always going to be the case though - Athers loves Star Wars, and I think it's pap. Still enjoyed slugging about in SW3 though as there was plenty of room to play the character in that. Good role or good theme certainly helps with the interest.
I learned so much about ME through the game and even watched some gameplay videos. Ordering the trilogy soon. Looks awesome. Initially I was thinking that I'd have low level of interest but I was pleasantly surprised.
Yeah it's an amazing game. I don't play many games but I've put close to 200 hours into Mass Effect 1 alone.
Like once a year I'm going to keep asking if people want batmaf and continuously people will be bored of maf by then
