EPL is the best due to the overall competitiveness of the sides. Some of the teams at the bottom of the table can be very hard to beat even for the top sides. La Liga on the other hand is rather top heavy in comparison. Typical answer I suppose.

The only thing I dislike about the English structure is the lack of reserve sides for top level clubs. It's one of the reasons I think some of the current continental sides are so strong, they have lower league sides that play the same style and form combinations as part of development, rather than almost forcing clubs to loan younger players out if they want a standard of football they should be playing at.

They do have reserve sides, they just play against other reserve sides.

It's a really crap set up though.

Having reserve teams play in the same leagues just ruins it for the "proper" first teams tat also play in that division. It's also depriving others from playing at a higher level, when probably the reserve team players aren't going to be playing for that club, and will surely just get transferred somewhere else.

Yeah, just not the same structure that I'd prefer. A random mesh of juniors, injured and out of favour players playing in a reserve squad against a similar side just doesn't seem to have as much worth to me.

I disagree, because it actually lets those sides prepare for a side with some similarity to what they might face upon promotion. It's also a much better way for them to identify talent that they may want to poach who would never reach the highest level for whatever club they're at. It might deprive players of not making it to that level, but if they're not better than a youth player at a big club then do they really deserve to?

AWTA. Changing line-ups week to week really make it frustrating and not a fair competition.

So the pro clubs on that tier want them out, so they have to push the reserve sides really far down the ladder (in Germany they're tier 4 iirc) and that means the reserves gets a very odd style of opposition.

I don't get why there isn't just a Premier League Reserves competition who play before the Firsts game?

I assume sorting Reserve competitions by the clubs geography was done for economic reasons but surely we're past that point now where clubs can afford to fund their own Reserve Grade sides.

It's not, IMO. I think looking at it from an Australian perspective it's easy to see why you wouldn't like it, because the pyramid that is English football is a completely different structure to anything you have over there. Introducing reserve sides into that pyramid would be a massive contradiction of the way the whole system has worked for a long time.

The loan system ensures plenty of players get the lower league experience before they are ready anyway.

Bundesliga in the next couple of years.

    Yeah, agree, I think.
