Basically the main tactics you'll have to input are: 1. Your starting lineup and bench players (duh). 2. Your interchanges. These will have to be complete exact instructions - eg. "at the 20 minute mark, 14 to prop, 8 to bench" - you'll have 10, and whenever you change your on-field side you'll have to basically re-submit all the answers to all the below tactics as well. 3. Your goal kicker. 4. Your main general play kicker (either half, hooker or fullback) 5. Which player you want to go into dummy half should your regular hooker be tackled and playing the ball (choice of lock, fullback, or half) 6. Which side of the field you want your halfback to stand on (five-eighth will automatically stand the other side). There is some difference between halfback and five-eighth so keep that in mind, even though it basically just uses a split halves structure. 7. Your alternate backline formations on both sides of the field. For about 50% of your moments to the right, first receiver will be left half and second receiver will be right half. But for the other half you'll have a choice of a few different formations. You'll have these choices for the right: Code: Dummy Half First Rec Second Rec A Hooker Right Half Fullback B Hooker Right Half Right Second Row C Hooker Lock Right Half D Lock Hooker Right Half If you have an idea for a different formation, let me know now. Obviously for left side movements you'd have a choice of left side players where it indicates right side players. Any other tactics ideas that would be easy to code in, or different formations etc would be welcome at this stage.
I've definitely been thinking of splitting this into long kicking and short kicking. It's just that, while it'd be easy, I don't want it to take 4 hours for everyone to set their lineup.
Fullbacks/wingers will take a lot of dummy half runs from their own half if they're good at it. If they're not good at it then they'll shirk it and your forwards will get tired quicker. So you won't have to tell him; he'll be doing it anyway.
I've got no idea what's going to be easy to code but; - Where you want to target the opponent in defence, i.e left edge, right edge, centre-field. - Attacking kick options, i.e looking to build pressure or create opportunities - Team mentality; attacking - neutral - defensive - Go to plays; i.e 3 or so plays you try more often in attack.
These three would be really easy to code in actually. The top and the bottom one could possibly conflict each other a bit though - if your three "go to plays" were all backline shifts and your target was up the guts, it'd just cancel itself out. Possibly best to just have one or the other. The other (Team mentality) which you'd probably expect to be pretty easy would be pretty challenging given all the other variables used to decide which play to run. I suppose I could just change the boundaries of what's considered on the attack - eg. on "attacking" really try to lay a try on the moment you get inside the opposition 40, but drop that back to the opposition 30 on moderate and the opposition 20 on defensive. That could be done pretty easily.
I'd love for teams to be able to set a compressed or spread defence but it just doesn't really fit with the way the sim works.
Actually no it doesn't. I've/I'd still an issue. So yes perhaps a bit tired, especially considering I had to make about 95 edits to the OP.
Will that first option take precedence over the latter on the last tackle? I wouldn't want to see my kicker jumping into dummy half and someone else kicking because my hooker has just been tackled.
Players can kick from dummy half. You can even make your hooker your main general play kicker if you like.
will the 10 interchanges be rigid or will we be able to change them according to what's happening in the game?
I think that's too weird a thing to be used by anyone other than you/Canterbury/England/anyone with James Graham. If you want to use James Graham as a first receiver then put him at lock.
I don't want them at all now. I'll show you how to fill out the form later. I'm just asking for things to code into the game at the moment, like Magic's post.
