    The worst one is the friendly in August, just madness to have an international friendly just after the season as started...

    Because Newcastle pulled Cisse out without filing the appropriate paperwork. Otherwise teams could just withdraw players from friendlies whenever they want.

    When is the best choice for them though?

    Run friendly tournaments during the summer? Players will just moan that they're not getting a chance to rest, so a lot of players will probably withdraw from squads.

    If you made it more towards pre-season time then clubs wouldn't be happy as they want their players to take part in their pre-season and if you move it really close to the end of the season players will be tired and the standard will be dire.

    I think there is no perfect answer to the international friendly problem and fore me they're needed.

    I agree with you, but it'd make things a farce. Solution is just to move them out of season time. Maybe during a winter break?

    Clubs wouldn't be happy with that either. IMO there is no way for nations to keep clubs happy on this front.

    Not really a waste of time

    Most of the time the biggest changes to squads will be after major tournaments, you don't want the first time a group of players actually being together being part of the qualifying campain.
