How good is Michael Morgan?

I think he's arguably the best back in the game due to his ability to genuinely make a fist of half, five-eighth, centre and fullback.

He's even gone pretty well at rep level coming off the bench and playing second row, haha.

Two try assists from centre in two Origins. That's better than practically everyone bar Inglis.

And they were on opposite sides of the field lol.

Lately I'd have to agree that he is the best back in the game. He kept the Cowboys alive and now they're in the grand final as the 8th seed.

Glad to see him step up in the absence on Thurston. Can't wait to see them play together again.

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Coote next season. I'm sure he'll still be in the side, but he'll be a lot less useful now. The big plus of Coote was always to hide the blemishes created by Morgan basically just pretending to be a half. The Cows might be better served by a different style of fullback now that Morgan's game has progressed so much.

What will interest me is Thurston's role next year whether he will still be the dominant ballplayer or given Morgan's massive improvement at half they can play the dual role.

Morgan is just one reason why I have 0 trust in the cred of views on team forums. Cowboys stampede wrote him off early on and wanted Thompson to be the main guy. lol

I'd honestly rather see you play halfback, Paddy, than Thompson.

Asiata playing there was genuinely a much better idea than Thompson.

Apparently some clubs are chasing Morgan with reported figures of 6 mil. Really, really hope he doesn't go. Cows obviously have to know he is the heir apparent to Thurston.

Cows can probably at least give a decent amount with money they'd have over once JT is retired. I think he'll want to stay especially with Taumalolo.

Broncos need a halfback. He'd go well with Milf. Be good for QLD.

thurston should be dominant in every attacking set, morgan otherwise. if they're past halfway thurston should always be first choice kicker. surely Thurston is smart enough to call for it when he wants to try a play when they're in the middle of the field. he's played with dominant halves before.

I just hope next year when JT is back Morgan doesn't devolve into a pure ball runner. The guy has got some skills. He's not a natural ball player but he can create a bit and has a decent pass on him.

Worth leaving Morgan at 7 next year and JT go back to 6?

Numbers mean nothing but nah you want Thurston the dominant half. What I want to see is a more traditional style from both where they circle over the other side and create the extra man. Thurston is the best in the game at it and is the best second receiver since Lewis imo.

Thread could have ended here, everything in that post is spot on - nothing more needs to be said.

I dunno if that makes him the best back. There's quite a few players than can cover 3, only probably a handful that can cover 4 spots in the 1-7.

Boyd/Munster/Hayne/Inglis can cover 1/2/3/6, and be very good at all 4 positions.

Munster doesn't really cover wing. And the other three are not great five-eighths imo.
