    Coach education.

    It's simple.

Though it is extended by cricket updates and breaks for the news... which gets annoying

That's a pretty important part of it yeh... There was a consensus that we tend to focus on the wrong things in this country.
Too much attention is paid to gym work nowadays and not on technique with both feet. While we also tend to push players in one direction positionally instead of allowing players to learn more than one. Ruud Gullit made a good point that as a winger you've got a much better chance of beating your opposition fullback if you know how a fullback thinks

Tbh, there's nothing really wrong with the future of English football teams.

There was lean period a few years ago, but now England is producing plenty of good players. And along with Spain, England underage teams are the best performing ones usually in Europe.

The problem for England national team has been not having enough Great players amongst the good ones. Which is something that happens in cycles.

International coaches that have been appointed not being that great tactically.

Players not being as committed to International football, as players from other countries are. Just look at the number of withdrawals there are almost each time England play a friendly vs players flying over from all over the world to play for some other teams.

And finally, Players who come up in a certain batch not being compatible with each other or being used to play with each other when a major tournament comes as they have been constantly changing in matches before. This is where in the last Euros for example the main crux of Italy's defence came from Juve, and Spain's midfield from Barca with a few additions from Real.

There's a pretty big problem imo. We haven't had a genuinely world class player for a while going forward apart from arguably Rooney who hasn't produced since 2004.

We don't seem to have anyone coming through who will address that issue either

Coaching at youth levels in academies is terrible. England are years behind other countries. They've only just completed the national centre!

I'd advise Chris Green's 'Every Boy's Dream' for anyone interested in this kind of stuff.

Depends on your definition of World Class but Gerrard and Lampard were absolute top notch and driving their respective club sides in the Champions League during that period. Scholes was doing pretty well too in a deep lying role after 2004 and part of a successful United side.

Then there were good backups like Carrick, Hargreaves etc..

Problem was that these players were not compatible with each other in midfield or properly used.

In Defense Rio and Terry were top notch defenders. Cole was as good as any left back in the world.

Annex Germany/Spain/Anywhere else with good young footballers.

Gerrard and Lampard weren't ever outstanding for England though during their prime. We've seriously lacked goalscorers in big tournaments for a while now

Barca are supposed to be opening a academy near London aren't they? Certainly was rumoured a few years ago.

    That would help

The 90 minute rule was a impediment and some other countries have favorable nationalization rule, but i don't think coaching is terrible at all at academies from what i've read and heard atleast at the top academies from people who have played/worked across the continent.

It can improve at many of the other academies but too much is made of it, because the national team under performs quite frankly. And not sure what difference will the national center make ?

Gerrard has been fairly decent for England. But neither were compatible with each other or properly used.

One of them needed to be benched and other used as a AM.

The main problem with our academies atm is the better ones are filling up with 16 y/o from abroad

They won't have the advantage of players from all over Spain, and especially Cataluniya clamouring to join them in England though.

The competition is way more spread out while they have a monopoly over Spanish players at young ages and also sign many from abroad who then might become Spanish nationals.

The Intake at younger ages for Barca is quite large.

What I'd like to see is some kind of centralised English academy.

Young players can get scouted by them and it could act in the same way as a private boarding school does. They attend the same school until their GCSEs are done and players can still sign pre agreements with clubs to join at the age of 17. However the best England youngsters all training and playing together until the age of 17 will be very good for the future of the England squad

Apparently Barca recently signed some 6y/o english kid. How anyone can judge potential at 6 is beyond me

    Actually a very decent idea.

Lilleshall? That wasn't quite the same thing... however it gets highly praised in the program by Glen Hoddle and Joe Cole

Lilleshall/St George's Park is about as close as you're gonna get.
