He did absolutely nothing in this year's Origin series, save for the last 20 mins of game 3. Slater is definitely much more effective in attack overall.
That being said, we definitely needed someone like him or Thurston in attack yesterday, someone who can create something out of nothing.
If Gallen made the mistakes Slater did MF would be on here for 22 hours straight and be absolutely ribbing him. Since it's one of his precious QLDers he's no where to be seen.
**** people are annoying. My mate is claiming that Benji is the best in the world. His top 5 players right now are Benji Farah Thurston Slater Carney. Does my head in soo much.
That does my head in more. No doubt coined by the ****head 'Aussie' commentators. The only people in the world who don't think Australia is an insignificant piece of shit are dickhead Australians.
Don't know about best in the world but it's hard not to rate him as one of the best currently imo even though this forum seems to underrate him a lot, probably because he doesn't play origin. He'll rightfully take out the Golden boot this year... there's not much he hasn't achieved.
What's the difference between best in the world and best currently? And what's the definition of current? Past year? Month? Week?
No difference I just rephrased it and I said 'one of the best' not the best... was my point. Up to this moment in time, involving his whole career subject to deterioration as a player.
Yeah, I can definitely agree with that. He ****s up, but that's the tag that comes on him when you play him. It just shits me when he gets a ribbing on here haha.
He's ****ed up in arguably the two biggest International matches in recent history for Australia. That's more than just a case of taking the good with the bad, it's when world class players (which he is considered to be) should be stepping up not becoming a liability.
He had a shocker last night no doubt, but he didn't make a huge mistake like he did in the World Cup final. What I saw last night wasn't a player looking like a liability due to recklessness or imcompetence, I saw a player struggle and have a bad match.
Anyone who knows me well, knows I've been the strongest critic of Slater over the years, in terms of rep footy. Everything that needed to be said about his erratic play, has been said by me a million times over on Rleague. I'm tired of trying to convince people of it - If they haven't been so convinced already, there's nothing I can do about it. The notion remains though, Slater should still be QLD and Australian fullback now that Hunt is gone. If Boyd maintains his form, then perhaps we think about a switch but other than him, there is nobody else even close - Those who mention Dugan and Hayne are kidding themselves.
And you Aussies think us winning the WC was a fluke now we have both league titles, what do you have to say now???
Anyone who called the World Cup a fluke after the Kiwis went within a whisker of winning the 06 Tri-Nations and flogged us in the 05 Tri-nations, should blush to even show their face. That doesn't mean the Kangaroos isn't still the best Test RL side in the world. It obviously is. We're much more consistent and still predominantly beat you and without any of our overseas players available. Your mob didn't even make the final last year and haven't won an ANZAC Test since 1998.
yeah nz cant lose as much as we do and win 1 game and then all of a sudden claim to be better especially when the winning try came off a blatent forward pass
Set the Tivo for this match and faggot recorded The pursuit of Happiness, was not impressed. Caught the match on Foxtel, and I just went to the end to see Toquiri get owned. I agree with Colesy, should've played Boyd 1-17 haha
Boyd's form is no better than Dugan or Hayne's though. I'll not advocate Hayne as a fullback though because he's terrible positionally and defensively. Boyd has simply got the easiest two jobs in football: fullback for the premiers and winger outside Greg Inglis up against the likes of Turner, Tahu and Monaghan. FMD he's played behind the best defensive team 2 years straight and people think he's ****ing Churchill. He's never had to do it at rep level and he's never done it successfully for a struggling team at NRL level like many others have. Reckon there's quite a few competent winger/fullbacks who'd do just as well if they'd have had the chances he's had. Gordon's gunness at fullback behind a gun pack is an example IMO. I've always rated Boyd (something Gemmell can attest to) dating back to when everyone was jerking over Michaels playing Origin. But fmd he has become over rated due to playing well (no better than his contemporaries) in champion sides.
