    Former President applauds Vipers success

Former President and current Vipers player Ryan Gee has applauded Tom Delonge's presidency so far this season and believes it has really improved the club. Vipers Media talked to Gee this week about everything from the club presidency, his performances as a player and the Vipers club as a whole.

Vipers Media: Hello Ryan. What's it been like just being a player this season since stepping down as President at the end of Season 10?

Gee:It's been great. Stepping down as president has stripped away all the responsibilities and distractions that come with such a job and has allowed me to focus solely on my cricket.

Vipers Media: Do you think Tom Delonge is doing a good job?

Gee: Delonge is doing a fantastic job. Since announcing my resignation, he has managed to take the club to even greater heights by signing the likes of GJ Weaver and WC Welker and instilling a great sense of comradery and self-belief at the club.

Vipers Media: Is he following a similar plan to what you would have done had you continued your role as President?

Gee: My interest in running the club had begun to wane over the last few seasons and I was becoming less and less involved with managing the club. This is why I decided to hand my position over to Delonge. If I had have continued on as President the club would be in decline. Handing the job over to Delonge has allowed him to take free reign of the club and keep us a competitive and attractive club as a whole.

Vipers Media: Onto a few more performance based questions, are you happy with your performance so far this season? What do you think has gone right? Or wrong?

Gee: I'm beginning to worry slightly about my form as of late. I started the season quite well and was averaging around the 50's. I was performing well enough to be re-selected for QLD on the provincial stage but the last 4 Bannerman Shield matches have been tough for me. I'll be focussing on getting myself out of this form slump over the coming rounds, that's for sure.

Vipers Media: What more do you want to do this season to make it a successful season for you as an individual player?

Gee: Obviously winning the Bannerman Shield is another cap I want. I would like to average 50+ in the Bannerman Shield as I have never done that before. I also can't wait to bring up my 100th Bannerman Shield match for the Vipers. I have 6 matches to go so injury permitting, it shouldn't be too far away. [Ironically, Gee was injured just before the publishing of this article]

Vipers Media: The Vipers this season have been touted as favourites to win the competition. Do you think this was a fair assumption?

Gee: I believe we have the strongest team in the competition and are deservedly favourites, yes. We have one of the strongest batting line-ups in the competition and our bowling line-up is by far the best. In DA Eggman, GJ Weaver and WC Welker we have the 1st, 3rd and 4th best ranked bowlers in the competition. Add to that the likes of GR Smith and JM Hughes and you have an almost god-like bowling attack.

Vipers Media: Do you think the Vipers are living up to expectations at this stage of the season? Any improvements needed?

Gee: Mostly yes. We've had a few shaky innings' so far and most recently an embarrassing loss to the Allstars but you can't be disappointed when you're leading at this stage of the competition. Our batting lately, the middle order in particular, has been disappointing and isn't giving our bowlers enough to work with. It's up to Delonge as President to get the boys training hard and to focus on the game.

Vipers Media: While we understand you are unable to talk about club recruitment and player movements, do you think the club is well-placed for Season 12 and beyond?

Gee: If all goes to plan, the club will be just peachy for Season 12. We have a lot of loyal blokes here and our recruitment team have their eye on a few solid individuals who would fit in well with us. There's uncertainty around the whole competition for anything beyond Season 12 however so I decline to comment on that part.

Vipers Media: Finally, you have done many things in your career thus far. Is there anything else you want to accomplish as a player?

Gee: A few things that have eluded me so far in my career are being selected for the North's representative side and the CricSim Test side. Whilst being a long way from being considered for these teams, I'm hoping that with a lot of hard work and some good performances I can force my way into the squads at some time in my career.

Ryan Gee was an integral part in developing the Vipers into what it is today. At one stage, the Vipers were considered the joke club of the competition, now a club which is taken all the most seriously. This is thanks to a very strong recruitment team and a number of loyal players. While it is unknown as to how much of an impact the expansion in Season 13 will have the Vipers. It seems safe to say that the Vipers will continue to be a dynamic force leading into Season 12 and beyond.

On a personal note, Vipers Media believe the Vipers players will need to be careful to not get too complacent in the second half of the competition. CricSim is a very strong competition and even though there are weaker teams, upsets can still be caused. We'd like to wish the players the best of luck in continuing to build momentum towards a possible finals charge.
