Not at all. Everton and Spurs aren't as big as United. As I've already said, 21 league games don't change that.

Because, presumably, "quality goals" are much harder to score than easier ones. Look at Bale from last season, Spurs were often under pressure and struggling to break the opposition down, and he'd just hammer home a 30-yarder in the 90th minute. And he'd do it all the bloody time.

Does anyone even think that the Suarez handball was all that wrong? If it had been say, Diego Lugano, nobody would've cared at all after the tournament.

    *sigh*

You specifically used "this season" in your argument ffs. This season, Spurs have been better and Everton have been far superior.

Yeah, just ignore what I actually said and deduce your own reasons for me including it. Good work.

When did I say anything about you? :/

Kind of incident you'd appreciate if it was one of your own (Neville in the Derby) but want them hung if it was the opposition.

    This year.

    aaaand you're a fuckwit.

Completely fine with opposition fans giving it to him for it, but IMO it's actually not as bad as diving to win a penalty for instance.

If he didn't do it, his country would have been out of the WC most likely, as it would've gone in. Even at the very worst, you can't argue it somehow makes him a worse player.

    I think it was wrong.

I guess this is quite relevant. I wouldn't think it was right if it was one of my own, and I wouldn't applaud it if one of my own did it. But I wouldn't be outrageously protesting in the opposite direction either.

Well considering I was the one who brought up the quality goals, I imagined what Speirz said was sort of levelled at me. And when you said presumably, that clearly indicated it wasn't your opinion and you were talking about someone else's opinion.

  13. Speirz DG Speirs

If anything it makes him better on the field, because he's willing to do more to win the game.

  14. Eds E Ames

    No...

Well we were always talking about the team of the year. I just used that example, of him not scoring against the 4 biggest teams, as this season as that's more recent, and I knew it was true. I wasn't sure about his goals from the end of the 2013 season.

I'd say it's on a par with the diving.

Having a penchant for the ridiculous doesn't suggest quality either way though IMO. Nobody keeps track of the amount of times these players try the same thing and send it into the stands or have an airswing. Tiger Woods wasn't the best golfer in the world because he kept having to pull himself out of the rough. Roger Federer wasn't the best tennis player because he played the odd shot between his legs or behind his back.

Or it shows his incredible lack of integrity. Zlatan will usually win it with goals. The only exception was when he came up against the Ballon D'or winner.

Well why else would you use presumably?

While I agree that this is a very valid point, and something vastly overlooked the majority of the time, when you watch Ibra play week in, week out, you'll see it's not something he does.

The difference between those two and Suarez/Bale/Ibra, though, is that in football, a ridiculous goal is quite often a way of digging your team out, rather than digging yourself out. Tiger getting himself out of the rough would imply he played a bad shot to get there originally, and Federer would have to be positioned poorly to constantly have to play bizarre shots. It was Spurs who played badly enough that they needed a Bale scorcher, rather than Bale in particular playing poorly.

I guess the idea Speirz was trying to get across was more that you don't see the amount of times they try it first (I assume he just means in games, otherwise it's an irrelevant point, cause that's why they train), rather than necessarily getting themselves out of situations.
