Ted Bullpitt While it tends to be the big, fast bowlers that makes batsman shake in their pads and have sleepless night, Bullpitt proved you do not need extreme pace to do it. Bullpitt may have lost the crown of CricSim’s greatest bowler to SB Wilson, but it does not stop him being the greatest seam bowler and on his day the most destructive bowler to come from our fine shores. He is the only person who has the honour of being able to say he has broken 100 Bannerman Shield wickets in a season twice. The first time he broke that barrier was in Season 4, where he took exactly 100 wickets, and the second time was in Season 6, where he took a phenomenal 121 wickets. Both of these seasons challenge Brett Gemmell’s Season 2 batting performance for the greatest performance in a single season. In Season 4 it seemed like it was harder for batsmen not to score runs that pile them on. Bullpitt was 1 of only 2 of the top 20 bowlers to average under 30 with the ball and quarter of the top 20 averaged over 40. To take 100 wickets at an average of 25.14 in a season where the bat destroyed the ball is simply excellent. His achievement in Season 6 certainly matched that wonderful performance too. While it was not as much of a bat dominant season he was once again much better than any other bowler. He took 121 wickets at 20.84 with the next best 2 bowlers being the spin duo of GEC King (105 wickets at 25.28) and his great rival SB Wilson (85 wickets at 21.62). Both of these seasons shall be hard to beat for any bowler. As an Allstars stalwart, Bullpitt formed one of the most formidable opening partnerships with Alec Funkotron. In the early days the fast bowler, Funkotron, was the more effective of the two, but following on from Season 4 Bullpitt claimed the lead bowler spot. It did not really matter who was their lead bowler the pair still struck fear in opening batsmen. At the end of Season 11, Bullpitt had 1069 First Class wickets at an average of 27.83. Which was a little tarnished by the great seam bowler playing on at the top level for one too many seasons. Unlike some of the other greats that seemed to have been in the decline it does not seem like there is any way back to the top for Bullpitt now. Instead he will spend his time helping to bring through the young crop of Allstars bowler.
So if we've had Best batsman Best keeper Best allrounder Best spinner Best seamer Cribb That'd be a reasonable place to stop the inital ones. Possibly best opener to come.
I remember the crazy and dangerous bonding sessions we've had to get our partnership going. Like one time we were asked to leave an Art Museum for calling abstract art fucken stupid. He definitely bowled me over right from the start.
