Stagg defends up the middle though. Any team that has a good right hand side attack could really exploit your left edge which is, as it stands, Watmough/Prince/Matai.
Your stats site is just ****ed... don't take any notice crib 17. Evarn Tuimavave (2008 stats - 2 tries, 85.1m and 173 tackles per game)
It's funny though, because Manly somehow managed to be a really good defensive team for three seasons with a left edge of Watmough/Orford/Matai and Glenn Stewart defending up the middle of the ruck. I don't really get it.
Not to mention the likes of Josh Perry and George Rose in the middle who have horrible lateral movement. For a good defensive side, they don't actually have many good defensive players. Credit to the coaching.
Yeah, Matai's really quite superb and discouraging teams from running plays in his direction. Once a game, usually early on, he pulls off an absolutely bell-ringer that makes the opposition halves attack Lyon, Bailey and Foran/Menzies instead. I don't know why coaches don't wake up to it and just instruct their players to go down there anyway.
