Changes to the site before the next CS season

    Heath has always done a great job of carrying this site on his back whenever I've been busy or need a break from simming and actively trying to improve the place, but with him gone and some other big-name members being less active, I think we need to make some changes to improve the experience of the forum. So I'm opening this up for ideas. I'm mainly looking for different simming/games/structure ideas rather than moderation ones so I don't want discussion about banning members or being stricter/more lenient on certain things.

    Firstly, I have several changes - most of which you won't really see as such - designed to make setting up simming much easier for me. I'll be eliminating a lot of the behind the scenes manual work to make everything more automated. This should go a long way to helping me keep on schedule with cricket simming, as should the migration of provincial cricket to the end of the season. This site is always at its best when we have regular and consistent cricket simulation.

    Secondly, as you may be aware, CSRL (aka RLSim, rugby league sim, etc) will be making a return. It'll be played every weekend, and it'll start around the same time as the next CricSim season in all likelihood. I'm hoping this will draw some more members to our rugby league discussion forum, which is high quality by lacking in different personalities at times.

    I'm also looking at upgrading to vBulletin 4. This is what CricketWeb currently and formerly RLeague are/were working off. It'll allow for some extra features as well as giving the site a makeover.

    If anyone has any other ideas about how any of the sims should run, or wants to run their own sim, this is thread to bring it up.

    Would updating vBulletin really be advisable?

    Given that cricsim is the sort of forum where people come to feel comfortable, and has no airs or graces, would it not be counter-intuitive to change the whole look of the place?

    Other stuff is cool though.

    It's left us slightly vulnerable to hacking and extremely vulnerable to spam bots. We're banning 150 or so a day; it's nuts.

    Although a couple of months in and nobody will remember what the old forum looks like.

    What is there to add though? More frequent simming rates is the only improvement and it's been covered.

    I could realistically run a cycling sim though and set it up so it's really quite low work (so I could juggle it), but I doubt there would be much interest in that.
