A Change of Reign at the 'Rays
    Siege Morgan, Ray News.

The Stingrays, a name synonymous with humility, with esteem and with honour. Formed just under three seasons ago by outstanding mates Gerard King, Luke Tyson and B Berkuta, the 'Rays, as they are celebrated by their faithful fans have relished varied grades of success, being victorious in their first season while just being absent from the finals in their latter two. Through this period of time, the administration has transformed, moving from Gerard King to Kelvin Fung. Nevertheless, today 'Ray news is vainglorious to declare the third President of the 'Rays as Steven Cambridge, or Steve as he is affectionately known as by his team mates.

Upon realising the strife that the 'Rays were in, Kelvin realised that he was no longer capable to devote the time requisite to bring the 'Rays their second premiership. He then offered his duty to club icon, Steven Cambridge – a long serving, dedicated member of the club who epitomises the type of player that the club wants. I caught up with him for a moment earlier today:

SM: Steven, you stand here today as the new president of the 'Rays. Is this a dream come true?
SC: Absolutely it is. This is the club that gave me a start in this league. Ben Hornby reached out to me as a rookie and took me on board as an unproven youngster. I am delighted now to be given the chance to mould and develop the future of this club as President. What a great honour to be handed the opportunity to work with such a great and talented group of people as we have on board at the Rays.

SM: Have you got any changes planned for the 'Rays?
SC: Look I think Kelvin has done a great job with this club as Ged did before him. However I think recently this club has been seen as a bit of a turmoil club. The Rays are not desperate, we never have been and we never will be. We may be a young club in seasons, but we most certainly are a proud club. I am taking this role of President to prove to the cricket loving community that the Stingrays are a strong club with strong roots and a strong future. I am not ready to rest on my laurels, but I will fight to make this club a champion club.

SM: Any prospective signings you'd like to divulge for our readers?
SC: You know as well as I Skip that somethings are best kept in the backroom. But sufficed to say I think there are some exciting days on the horizon for the Stingrays.

SM: Steve, do you have any extra comments for us, anything else you'd like to add?
SC: I would just like to give my warm hearted thanks to Kelvin and all the power brokers in the Stingrays board room for the opportunity they have given me and I really look forward to the seasons ahead. Cheers Skip.

SM: Cheers Steve, we look forward to seeing you carrying the Bannerman Shield at the end of next season.

Steven was also able to unveil the new board at the Stingrays

    President: Steven Cambridge
    Head of Recruitment: Steven Cambridge
    Chairman of Selectors: Siege Morgan
    ALC Selector: Paul Adams
    Media Manager: Hayden Bots

And just an hour ago, we caught up with the much loved outgoing president, Kelvin Fung

SM: You sit down with me today no longer as the president of the 'Rays. What do you have to say?
KF: Firstly, I just want to say that I personally offered to step down, so no linking this to the Gillard-Rudd scenario thanks. When I first took over as President, I was really keen to make a difference. However, since then I’ve been busy and been caught up in other projects. I don’t think it’s right for me to stay on when I know I don’t have the time to fully commit to taking this great club into the future. I could see that my lack of commitment has caused some problems already, so the time was right for me to step down. I must say, in the time I’ve been President I’ve learnt a lot about the politics within CricSim – and it certainly isn’t pretty.

SM: And the new president, Steve. Are you pleased with his appointment
KF: I’m really excited about the prospect of Steve taking over as President of the Rays to be perfectly honest. He is what the club stands for – a down-to-earth chilled kind of guy and that is the environment we want to have. That’s why I was over the moon when he accepted the offer I made to him just over 24 hours ago. I was talking to him about his plans just before this interview, and I don’t know what to say. Even within the short time-frame, he somehow managed to have pretty much everything organised. He has a great vision and I know he has the attitude and personality to achieve that. The Rays are gonna be in safe hands for a while methinks.

SM: Kelvin, Steven couldn't give us any recruitment news, can you?
KF: I respect that he wants to keep things on the down low, so no, I’m not going to divulge any just yet. Club secrets are that for a reason. However, I will say that there might be some surprises.

SM: Anything else to add, Kelvin?
KF: Those who are writing us off for next season, we’ll be happy to show you wrong. And I would like to thank Steve for taking on the job and wish him luck in the seasons ahead – it certainly isn’t an easy job if you want to run a successful club as some may think. Thanks Siege.

SM: Cheers Kelvin, and good luck.

We also caught up with loyal Stingray, Paul Adams

SM: Paul, obviously Steven has been unveiled as the new head of the club - where do you stand on the issue?
PA: Couldn't be happier to have Steve as our new president and I am looking forward to seeing how he approaches his new roles at the club.

SM: And Kelvin - do you have anything to say on his departure?
PA: Fung is a Ray's 'legend' and will always be a vital part of the club, whether he is president or not.

SM: Now, Kelvin and Steven have been unable to divulge any transfer speculation, are you able to?
PA: I think it's best I leave those sort of matters to the head honchos

SM: "If a club is strong off the field, then they will always be strong on the field." Can you evaluate this claim with your own personal opinion?
PA: Couldn't agree more. For a team to be successful they must have strong team chemistry and know each other's roles and abilities. By having a tightknit group of members in our sub forum the Rays are ensuring our club is in good shape.

SM: 4 words to describe the new era of Stingrays
    PA: Exciting, Young, Fresh Faced

SM: So, are you optimistic? Happy?
PA: Very much so! New board, new recruits and plenty of potential within our group. Eagerly anticipating the start of Season 11 and seeing how far we can go as a club.

SM: Cheers Paul, and good luck shaking off your Ritchie syndrome

So, as you can see – the 'Rays are not to be underestimated. They're at least in a better position for next season than the Crusaders.

Fung was looking to step down. I wanted to see the rays prosper. I was leaving to look for a new experience, I am getting that new experience now without having to leave a club that I really enjoy being at.
