Books You Are Reading...

Had a second crack at reading The Stand after putting it down a month ago when it was getting boring.. up to 25% of the way through and I've chucked it again. God I hate Stephen King, no idea why I continue to give his shit books a chance.. the guy has literally introduced 1000 characters without moving the storyline at all, I'm just reading the same shit over and over again. And the way he adjusts his writing style to suit how each character thinks makes it so painful to read after a while considering they're all different variations of dumb rednecks.

    The Earthsea Cycle.

Been enjoying it despite it being similar to Tolkien's work in the sense that it's a lot of story and not much action.

  3. Dan DB Wayne

Just knocked over The Girl on the Train. Not really sure how to rate it, really. I didn't like the characters, but that was kinda the point of them. Story was solid, and not predicting the ending of a thriller by page 20 is worth some points alone.

I loved it, couldn't put it down. Each to their own I guess.

Been listening to Thomas Sowells 'Basic Economics' audiobook this week at work. He's been smashing a few economic myths.

Also nearly finished the undercover economist by Tim Harford, really enjoying it, think I'll have to go in to economics myself.

Read Gone Girl a couple of weeks ago. Pretty good I thought, haven't seen the movie yet so interested to watch it and see how it was adapted. Seems like it would need a lot of narration from the characters.

Anyone got any interesting reads/authors I should look out for in regards to renewable energy? I'm reading a book at the moment on energy in general, but it's more like an introductory science textbook, looking for something a bit easier to read.

I've only seen the movie but know someone that's done both and reckoned there was parts they wouldn't have understood/ picked up from the movie if they hadn't read the book.

Reading Matthew Reilly's new one The Great Zoo of China. Very Jurassic Park-ish, just with dragons instead of dinosaurs.

Its one of the best film adaptations out there imo. She does the screenplay though which always helps

Went on Vacation to Europe for 5 weeks.
    On plane/train trips I read:
    Game of Thrones.
    Clash of Kings.

I'm home now and I'm about 1/2 way through Storm of Swords.

Unbelievable writing. It's so hard to put down once you start.

I want to be ready for Winds of Winter when the cunt decides to release it.

I got half way through Game of Thrones and thought, wow for such a cool story this book is terrible...

First two thirds or so is all setup though, after that shit starts going down

I finally finished all of the ice & Fire books that are out, gotten really hyped for Winds of Winter if it ever gets released.

Goood stories but the prose is just horrible.

I just finished reading Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre. It's a satire around the subject of a high school shooting in the US and the media. Was an excellent book, although I personally think there were a couple of glaring plot holes - kind of unimportant to the quality of the story, really.
