    GROUP A
    1. Australia - 13
    2. Japan - 11

    3. Bahrain - 7
    4. Uzbekistan - 4
    5. Qatar - 4

As you know, top two automatically qualify while 3rd will be forced to play off with the 3rd placed team from the other group (which consists of Saudi Arabia, Iran, South Korea, North Korea and the United Arab Emirates).

    Final three qualifiers coming up...

    Qatar - June 7, Doha
    Bahrain - June 10, Sydney
    Japan - June 17, Melbourne

    Tips? Expectations?

We only need the point to secure qualification to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

  3. Hybrid A Kolar

    Are you an Englishman?

It's actually the easier of the two groups, but still tough nonetheless.

  4. Hybrid A Kolar

    Decent article.

Hybrid, it's not like you to make an unneccessary thread about Association Football.

  6. Hybrid A Kolar

    IMO, this thread isn't unnecessary.

  7. Farny AP Farnsworth

AWTA. Our school team would get out of that group.

Also, I'll say it before and I'll say it again...Socceroos is a stupid name. You guys should petition to change it.

    Lol nice bait there.

Wake me up when you guys play heavyweights like Andorra and Kazakhstan. :whistling:

You're having a laugh aren't u Hybird. 1 decent team and that's Japan. Fair enough European teams have to play **** teams like Andorra and Kazakhstan but we still have to play teams like Croatia and Ukraine who are 2 very strong teams.

    Look at group 1
Portugual Denmark Sweden. I would say all 3 are stronger than Aus

why did Aus change anyway, couldn't they beat the 5th place South Amercian team.

  12. MASTERS S Masters

yes we could, look at the world cup, we got beat by a referees decison to the world cup winners

  13. Farny AP Farnsworth

   !

Says the bloke who comes from a country where the national sport is soccer has nearly 3 times the population of Australia yet only marginally achieved better than them on the biggest football stage and even that is debatable considering Australia went down to the eventual champions.

  15. Magic AJ Parker

Because the Asian competition is a much more respected competition, gives them a good idea of where they are at and a better preparation for the WC.

It's really sad that this thread has turned into a "who is a better team, England or Australia thread". Especially when considering how stupid an argument that is to have. Any Aussie who thinks the teams are of a similar standard is deluded. Any Englishman who feels the need to even put forward an argument that England are better is an idiot. You should just keep this thread on the topic of the Aussie team IMO.

  17. mouse MJ Edwards

It hasn't got to do with the fact it's easily to qualify to the world cup and won't have to face the 5th team in the South Amercian group

Your side is so overrated, has been for years... with all the advantages and set up that you guys have you shuold've won something since 1966, not evening qualifying for the Euro Cup was laughable.

There's a club in Australia who'd you'd probably be very happy to support... called the Cronulla Sharks, just thought I'd let you know if you ever relocate.

  19. Magic AJ Parker

Because teams like Korea and Japan are easy?

The main reason why they moved is for a better preparation leading up to the WC and getting into competitions like the Asian Cup which Oceania didn't provide. I can go a little slower for you next time if you wish...

You're deluded. You won one friendly, against a weak team. Well done.

We are overrated, and we should be in the top ~5 teams in the world, which we aren't. Still not comparable to the Aussie team though. Anyway, according to my own post, if I even feel the need to argue this, I'm a muppet, so I'll shut up.
