Will be interesting to see where he lands next, I still think he's a good coach. Probably needs to take a year off for his health.

 

Whole club seems whacked at the moment.

Was reading some comments made from the chairman and wondering what planet he was on;

"We have committed more resources and funds to the football department than ever in the history of the club.

"There has been a very active and aggressive recruitment and retention program.

"But the results on the paddock do not bespeak the investment that has been made.

"This year we have finished 13th, last year 11th and the year prior 9th.

"There is a disconnect then between what has gone in and what's come out."

Thought this was an interesting stat, since 2005 when Brian Smith lead Parramatta to the minor premiership only 5 coaches have won the minor premiership since and those 5 coaches make up the top 5 for this year's competition.

The value of a good coach?

 

I wonder how the NRL would run a top 6 finals series.

I'd be all for a shortened regular season and extended finals series.

 

One of my big issues with the top 8 system is we don't see the best sides play off enough. This season for example the biggest games were ruined by origin and injuries.

Then we play a finals system where only 2-5 of the games depending on the outcome will be top 4 sides playing each other.

For me personally I would happily cut the regular season to 20 rounds, increase the finals series to 8 rounds and have a top 5 who all play each other Home & Away with top of the ladder taking the comp, no Grand final. No grand final means it's never a remote possibility but some variation of that with culminating in a grand final.

 

Nah there would definitely be a lot more hype around a Home and Away top 5 than a Home and Away regular season with 16-18 teams.

I know personally if my club made it I would want to attend every single game regardless of whether it's in Melbourne, Brisbane or NZ there would be the finals buzz about it. Where as I I'm a 50/50 whether I'll even make the trip down go Canberra from Sydney for a regular season game.

I want to see a Penrith V Melbourne Home and Away with finals intensity this year. In the current format there's no guarantee they'll even meet.

I imagine they probably win their game next week then get crushed by the Panthers for what is looking like a very predictable finals series.

 

You’d seriously have to think about hooking Luai in this game and shifting Burton close to the ball.

Luai is offering nothing and completely stifling the attack.
