Pending form I wonder if QLD will consider the likes of Feldt for the wing or at least pending injuries. Option as a goalkicker especially long range and a decent finisher. Defence has really only been a problem when he defends outside O'Neill.

We honestly don’t need to make many changes. We went within a bee’s dick of winning the series. We certainly don’t need changes to the backs or halves except for Chambers.

Fifita, Ofa and Arrow were very solid. They’ll be heaps better for the run this year. Lowe wasn’t great running the ball but clearly got better as the game went on.

It’s the middle. That’s where we lost the series. Tighten that up with Friend and Arrow. And look at our prop options over the next 10 months.

And I would strongly consider either Gagai or Holmes at right centre if comes back to RL. As much as I dislike Gagai there we just can’t pick Chambers any more.

I feel like Munster played more like a centre in the halves for most of his Origin career anyway. Step inside, Step inside, Step inside, step inside etc etc. It's not ideal, but neither is picking absolute shit fuckers like Mmmbop, Chambers and Morgan (as a left centre...or pretty much as anything other than a halfback now).

Who are the other QLD options?
Hymen Hunt - was always a numpty in the past, but seems to go OK with Ponga.
Mario Seve? Will he even be in the full strength Melbourne side for long?
Fale Dropley? Seems to be going ok at the Titans, but we already have Oates Dropley.
Opachick? Actually I suggested him before lol.

Few people should have a line through them. Chambers and Wallace just simply should never be picked again.

Might as well pick a team now and see how far away it is

    1. Ponga
    2. Goates
    3. Morgan (nobody else)
    4.
    5. Gagai
    6. Munster
    7. DCE
    8. McGuire
    9. Friend/Turpin
    10. Papalii
    11. Kaufusi
    12. Gillett (very close to done)
    13. Arrow

    14. Hunt
    15. Ofahengaue
    16. Fifita
    17.

Getting Hunt out of 9 is a must. He just cant play more than 40mins there, IMO.
I would pick backrowers before any of them.

Also anyone not quite convinced by DCE? He hasn't been particularly great outside of Game 3 last year, he just doesn't seem have the killing edge to him at this level.

Yeah I love him as a player but he's been meh. "Meh" isn't anywhere bad enough to make me consider dropping him for Hunt or Norman, but he'd want to do something soon or he'll fall victim to the next whizz kid and/or a dumb selection decision.

If all the positions had equal importance then yeah Munster at centre would make a lot of sense. But centre in the modern game is the least important position. Fuck even bench props who only play 35 minutes are more important IMO. I don't think you can afford to waste him there, even if you tried to give him a bit of a free reign like Trbojevic. It doesn't always work -- Trbojevic tried really hard to get himself involved in Game III but it didn't happen for him.

I'd move Gagai if another Origin quality winger came along, but between Nene's horrific injury/apparent mental struggles and the next best options apparently being Edrick, Feldt and Thompson, you don't have one.

Mbye starting at centre was really stupid though. Pretty much all the guys you listed above are better centres. Even Kurt Mann is a better centre. I just don't get that decision at all.

If Holmes comes back as MF suggested then Gagai to centre suddenly does make heaps of sense though. Gagai is a good winger but not necessarily better than Holmes - if he's better at all it's close and you don't lose much by sticking him at centre and bringing Holmes in. He's a meh centre but meh is better than Mbye and Chambers.

I was thinking of Morgan as next in line to try. He's been fucked around a lot over the last few years, he doesn't seem good anywhere else anymore... hopefully he kills it at halfback for the Cows.

Cherry-Evans has been pretty decent imo. I think we're used to the Cronk, Thurston, Lockyer standard. Gotta remember, he hasn't had that much time starting in Origin. He was more than serviceable this year afaic.

I thought he really stood up in that second half. Got Chambers on the outside a couple of times, set up Papalii’s try, and made a good break or semi break linking up with Hunt that nearly got us in range to win it.

And let’s not forget, our forwards were dominated this series.

Morgan at 6, Munster centres thx

  13. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Morgan at 14 still has a ton of merit imo.

Remember the days when Morgan couldn't get a start at the cows because of Robert fucking Lui and Ray Thompson. Funny old game.

Munster in the centres is a complete waste. Would rather play Fifita there.

Yeh true. Has a soft carry though imo.

lol We can't play second rowers against Turbo and Latrell. They'll get burnt repeatedly.

  20. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Despite what EWS and others say about centre being the least important position, which I mostly agree with, it is still one of the harder positions to defend in. Namely because it’s in the corridor where the forwards transition to the backs and right next to, generally, the worst defenders on the field; the halves.

You can’t play guys like Kaufusi that wide. They just don’t have the pace required.
