Nathan Brown Warriors coach through to 2023 - Phil Gould Director of football.

How did the warriors do out of this? What do you think lads.

  2. Lukic L Popovic

    Pretty good I think.

Nathan Brown doesn't strike me as the type to like being told or constantly recommended what to do by Phil Gould.

    interesting.
I do like the idea of a Director of football though so the head coach and Director can cogitate together rather than relying the entire fate of the club on one guy's IQ. Two people working together, who are compatible, have an IQ of around 250 as opposed to an individual around 100.

Gould is becoming over-rated. He clearly knows a lot about footy, but doesn't really have a great track record.

  6. Toolman TR Man

You might be on to something there. But why not take it a step further and have ten compatible people of around 100 so then you'd have an IQ of around 4000.

From what I understand, Gould worked wonders for Penrith's youth development system. Given the Warriors have such a big development pool yet seem to get trash in return, he could be invaluable there.

Dunno why NRL players don't just defuse grubbers by grounding the ball, so many times they just fuck it up with airswings.

  9. Magic AJ Parker

If more plays tried to ground the ball than knock it dead I reckon we would just see more errors from players trying to ground the ball.

The Rugby league ball is a funny thing.

Haha, true. But just now Boyd just ground it in goal  A month ago he'd have made a meal of it though.

Haha, only against the Broncos :jester:

Brisbane defence is just so, so bad. Simple catch and pass will create an overlap, and not just a 1man overlap, often 4v2 or 4v1. Whoever structures the D should be sacked. Haas is probably the worst goal-line defender I've ever seen.

How good are the Warriors now. Todd Payten must be a gun coach.

Because people can't get a word in edgeways in a large conversation. 4-5 people can be good though. 2 is minimum.

There were some intricasies in his plan too
    1) Grubber kicks in the red zone from last play options
    2) Switched Kodi from left to right side to attack the weaker defensive Manly flank.

First move I'd make as a coach is get whoever takes kickoffs to just belt the ball as hard as they can towards the sideline to around 35m out. You'll get the ball back half the time either through knock ons, the chasers getting it or it going out after bouncing.

I've always though it's ridiculous more players don't train to do higher/loopy kicks offs that come down 20m out from the try line. It's that awkward yours/mine space for a call between a half/second rower, means your chase is 3-3.5 seconds from the landing zone so may be able to catch/at the very least pressure and if it all goes wrong, the attacking side start their set 20 odd metres from their try line, which isn't too far from where they end up off a deep kick off anyway.

Seems like fairly high potential reward for little risk. A heads I win, tails I don't lose much/at all approach.

  18. Lukic L Popovic

Yeah that too. Pat Richards was a gun at those.

There must be next to no communication on the edges. They get sucked in so far then don't slide out. Doesn't help that Seibs swaps rotates props as edge forwards every game.

Haas is playing too many miniutes. Just because he can be out there, doesn't mean he should be. TPJ and Lodge are snapping at his heels for that worst goal-line defender title.

Would be way less than half the time, it's not easy to do. Nigh everytime they'll gather it in and be starting the set at 35m.
