    Third post in a row

    Brisbane need a full back

Warriors and a number of other teams have capable bods floating around who could be parted with eg we could give up fusitua easily

Brisbane must acquire a player immediately be it a signing or player trade

Brisbane are my second team at the moment lol

Warriors need to fix their culture, it’s the reason only Australians needing a lifeline want to play here

paying overs to bring back past it kiwis zzz

well losing by 1 and losing by 60 is the same. You lose and the other team gets the comp points.

Golden point is a draw though

If that’s what NZ are going for (size in the forwards) you may as well burn the place down. The game has very quickly pivoted away from big forwards.

If you give both teams a point for GP and then 1 extra for winning there's no incentive to actually play for the first 80 minutes. Just 0-0 til the 80th and then have a field goal shootout for the extra point.

I meant losing by 1 in GP should not be the same as losing by 60.

    What a load of crap.

I'd just do away with regular season extra time all together, realistically I'm big on the idea of a game of rugby league being 80 minutes for a pre determined amount of points.

You may we'll be right that it's based purely off preferring tradition and possibly a degree of slippery slope fallacy, thinking that you bring in extra points here, could there be come kind of further bonus points in the future (like rugby unions point for more x amount of tries), as we all know they love fucking about with the rules.

I think the extra point has potential to throw up strange incentives and ladder shenanigans, something like:

Last round, 8th V 9th, 7th no game in hand

    current ladder:

    7th 28 points PD 2+
    8th 27 points PD 20+

    9th 26 points: PD 20+

7th shouldn't be able to miss the finals from the position, the extra point makes it possible though. Even in the example though I suppose they'd all have been playing under the same rules all season, so it's not like it's unfair.

I suppose it ultimately boils down to the fact that I think Golden Point is a mistake, so further adjusting the rules to accommodate it is the wrong approach.

Yeah that's fair enough. I'm fine with getting rid of gp but I dont think there is any less incentive to win.

I think the problem people have is not so much with the system of points as awarded but more to do with the reality of having a field-goal-athon. You're basically playing a different type of game to normal RL.

I much prefer the finals extra time system of a set amount of minutes rather than a score ending the match.

Alternatively, disallow field goals in golden point. Have an extra five minutes a side for someone to score a try or penalty goal.

I'd rather just call it a draw honestly, but the field goal shootouts are definitely lame in a contest where you don't really need a winner.

I remember my old man suggesting an adjusted form of golden try (so that the game keeps going if it's a field goal but the field goal still counts after 90 minutes, but if it's a try it's game over), which I think sounds OK. Still don't get why we need to have Golden Point for H&A games though.

  13. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah people have suggested this for ages but I think you still have to allow penalty goals or there are too many possible scenarios in which players would actually be massively incentivised to commit a professional foul.

Yeah I'm fine with a draw but a lot of people aren't. Nobody minds seeing a draw between two teams for whom they care nothing, but supporters of clubs in draws tend not to be. It can have a very ambivalent effect on people, almost like, what was the point? (Pun intended).

Corey Norman doesn't even play for my club but his lack of effort irritates me no end.

I may be a week late to join the conversation but is there are more overpaid player in the game? He was an absolute cancer at the Eels and now at the Dragons.

I don't know how he doesn't cop more stick, at least Ben Hunt tries.

His role in that Luke Keary try on Friday night pretty much summed up his whole career. Like what the fuck was he doing, did the think he was at a strip club?

Julian is a real diehard fan of his club and blows up deluxe on Messenger whenever golden point starts for his own team, even if they end up winning in the end. It's different for different fans. The people who go to the game probably want to see a result I guess, especially if they don't go every week and it's a real event for them when they do.

I think Julian is an exception to the general rule. GP exists precisely because of the flat feeling so many fans express when their team draws.

  18. Paddy P Orr

Probably depends on game context too. A draw where your team was the better team might be bittersweet whereas losing team forcing a draw the fans might accept that.
I wouldn't know either way as NQ last draw was before I got into the NRL proper. lol

  19. Paddy P Orr

Taking the emotion out of the win last night over Newcastle, NQ are interesting and not a good thing. To trot out rubbish like the first half v Tigers then trot out a good first half yesterday but sloppy second half with the same team it's perplexing. I think Green blooding some youth has been a good move but O'Neill is still deadwood we can get rid of and should. Rookie being poor defensively early on I could understand but O'Neill just looks like he gives 0 fucks defensively.

Am liking Opacic too. Tabuai-Fidow also a much needed speedster we've needed in our backs.

  20. Paddy P Orr

Don't start me on that game. Dunno if I'd seen worse defence from NQ ever or at least not in the last 10 or more years. No coming forward with linespeed, no sliding across to prevent a telegraphed spread from having any impact. First try Tigers scored was probably the worst. Massive hole next to the posts and he went in untouched. These one pass to a holerunner tries are the worst.
