I don't begrudge anyone for picking Roberts. But the media hype, the talk of him tearing up in rep footy when anyone with a basic understanding of Origin and varied RL centre abilities and attribtes could see the cunt has literally zero to his game other than speed, I wonder if they'll own it now.

He proved tonight, he is not an Origin standard centre and nowhere near capable of marking Inglis.

Haha yeah there you have a bloke who's played fullback and five-eighth all his life who's just played 65 minutes in at fucking lock, and you want him to assess the step up in quality between different levels of the game. Ponga was spot on to focus on the positional switch in his answers -- it would have been a much more difficult adjustment for him than playing against better players for higher stakes.

We definitely need to do something about our forward rotation. Qld gassed themselves last game and just couldn't capitalise on the field position/Hunt and Chambers tarded it up but we were dominated for significant portions of the match in both games.

It's a shame DCE has such a phaggoty personality. There's no way it isn't part of what's kept him out of the side all this time. And I still believe he is the best halfback in QLD.

Is Wallace just a huge numpty, or is he being used poorly? Didn't come back on after his mammoth 4 run stint. I'd definitely move McGuire into the front row, Arrow to lock, Ofahengaue to the bench.

Hunt is kind of a weird product of the modern game in that he's a very natural first receiver but much more comfortable not organising the side from that position. I guess it's something that split halves and more dominant dummy halves can produce, and even kind of hide a bit within certain structures.

Cherry-Evans and Morgan are better game managers but also much less comfortable at first receiver than Hunt, so I don't know how Queensland really reconcile this. I think their best halves combination may actually be one with Munster even if Munster is their best half, weird as that may be.

I knew at ht it was quite concerning to have created so many chances in the first 40 and still trailed. I can’t remember having so many 2-on-1’s and 3-on-2’s and line breaks and still losing. It’s so fucked...

Qld never really dominated us in the forwards though. They just had a couple of average to poor hit ups, exploited our edge defence for a few plays then came back to centre field for a Mcguire hit up and then ran their last play option off that.

Not only did we allow them to dictate the way the game was played but we bought into it too. A better rotation wouldn't have done much for us tonight I don't think.

I do still think carrying Crichton & Peachey on the bench is excessive though. In fact Crichton has been non-existent, at least Tariq Sims would provide some good leg speed and aggression and would easily handle middle third or edge footy if required.

I’ve never seen a game with good ball control in which both packs were so ineffectual. The ridiculously slow rucks didn’t help but there wasn’t much doing in the middle for either pack.

  11. Paddy P Orr

Congrats to the Blues and Freddy. Props to them for doing a great job on us in both games.

Funnily enough his origin performance was about on par with other Origin stars like Jamie Buhrer and Jason King.

Was a weird game. I’ll echo the Hunt and Chambers criticism they were horrible. One thing that has been glossed over here imo and what hurt Qld is Papalii didn’t get himself into the game. Was Qlds best in game 1 and it’s no stretch to say he is probably Qlds best running forward no matter what position he plays while Gillett is out. I thought that hurt Qld as did Wallace starting over him and Arrow. Wallace has to go imo.

Prior was out of his depth and NSW definitely lacked another genuine prop.

James Roberts was without a doubt worst on ground. Just not up to Origin. And in saying that the 2 on the other side should be admonished for bone headed play that should’ve cost NSW the game. Tarago has a highlight reel but I don’t like him either, likely to cost you a game.

End of the day the Smith retirement cost Qld this series and I hope people speak the truth about that. To retire a month before game 1 really just isn’t on unless there’s severe undisclosed reasons for it. On top of everything it meant Qld had to play without a genuine goal kicker which I don’t think should ever really be done at this level.

Yeah Wallace is pus. I’d sooner start Hess up front but obviously it should’ve been McGuire and big Papa or Arrow at lock.

Smith retiring sooner wouldn’t have changed the result. We still would’ve picked the same players and still lacked basic game management that should’ve seen us win. Walters being blindsided by his retirement is no excuse. Hunt deserves all the criticism he gets (and then some) but McCullough does too. Smith would never have fed Hunt that much ball late in the game when the left was firing, and Hunt was obviously way off his game.

Would've won Game II if Smith played it IMO.

Without question. We would have won it if Kevvie would have hooked Hunt and Chambers, put Ponga at 7 and Kaufusi right centre.

As disappointed as I am I’m pretty encouraged for next year. Obviously NSW’s rookies will be better too but there’s lots of positives to take out of a game we lost but should’ve won.

Ponga is an out and out superstar. Can’t wait to have him at 1 for 80 minutes. Munster is a gun and keeps proving me wrong.

We get a decent 7, Gillett and Morgan back in there, Arrow will only get better. We just need another prop to actually stand up alongside Napa and Papalii because Fittler will continue to fuck NSW’s middle-third with weird, left-field selections.

    We have to run with

    1. Ponga
    6. Munster
    7. Morgan

I guess I'd be fine with DCE and Morgan in the 14. I'd also be fine with Hunt on the bench coming on and playing at 9.

As much as Ponga at fullback scares the shit out of me, Slater was probably best on ground last night anyway. Definitely would've been MOTM if Queensland won IMO.

  20. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

Yeah I thought he should’ve been motm regardless of the fact that we lost.
