What do people think of a James Maloney/Blake Green combination? I'm not entirely sold on Blake Green at all tbh but if he keeps this form up it'll be hard to deny him a start.

    Ew. Absolutely haram.

  3. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    Lol why is that?

    Hard to settle on a halves pairing but if I had to pick tonight and I'm sure this is probably left field to most I would settle on;

    6. Cody Walker
    7. James Maloney

I'm really interested to see if Moylan can't find some form at 5/8 though.

I always thought Walker was a Queenslander because he's a "Titans junior", but of course like most Titans juniors he comes from the Northern Rivers NSW competition.

(definitely still wouldn't pick him though, get off the meth Max)

Yeah Walker is definitely left field. I’d sooner pick him at fullback tbh.

Fittler will pick Hayne at 6

Brad FIttler has come out and said the only two certainties for NSW are Boyd Cordner and, before he got injured, Jordan McLean. lol fuck that is a worrying statement for future selections if you're a NSW fan. Even people who rate McLean would be shocked at something like that I would think.

And it sounds like Keary is the frontrunner for five-eighth.

  10. Cribbage RG Cribb

    lol wtf

What the fuck? Such a weird pick, but from his commentary you knew he was gonna come out with some weird picks.
The bloke that wants to play for QLD. It's a disgrace he isn't allowed to play for QLD. Born and raised in the switch, same as his parents.

Fittler’s a form junkie. I’m not saying he’s wrong to want Maloney at halfback but using one game on the weekend as a justification is troubling.

We're gonna see some really weird selections, which is what QLD need to have a chance at winning.

I'd like to think he's just saying that to keep everyone pushing as hard as possible for selection. In reality he's probably being honest, I guess it's not that ridiculous if he's only got a few names for each position, ie hes not sure whether Trbjovic or Tedesco for fullback, Merrin or *sigh* Jackson for lock etc. Although you feel it would only take one 5 try game for him to put Alex Johnson and Nic Cotric on the wings.

It's totally fine if he wants to say all positions are open. That's strategic, as you say, to keep everyone pushing. But this is not like Kevvie being asked who can fill in for Thurston and he lists Mbye among the contenders. It would be like if he said Mbye was a certainty ahead of Morgan, Munster, Milford etc.

That would be very concerning to me. McLean isn't a bad player but nobody, even Jordan's mum, could with a straight face say he should be one of only two certainties in the team. What ridiculous analysis is Fittler doing to come to that conclusion?

Yeah I think Keary should be allowed to play for whoever he likes - born in one state, played his first footy in another, it's a classic case of just 'let the player decide' IMO.

I'm not really comfortable having him play for NSW given he supported/supports Queensland. If I thought he was the best player for the job I'd definitely have a chat to him about it to see how keen he was and if his thoughts had changed over time, but it'd be hard to convince me to actually want to pick him. And this isn't even something that seems to get a cursory mention by pundits when Keary playing Origin comes up. Sickening really.

Yeah if he said every spot was open other than the captain I'd just brush it off as classic coach-spins-shit-to-media-to-inspire-players talk, but mentioning McLean is weird as fuck. Suggests firstly that it's actually true, because what other tactical reason would he have for saying that? ... and secondly that it's entirely possible for Fittler to have penned players in but just hasn't done that with Frotzwhole, Klemmer or Trbojevic, instead locking in random prop who has never played Origin, is a 50/50 call in most people's teams at best and is fucking injured anyway.

Could be some 5d chess going on and Fittler trying to let Mclean know how close he is/how highly rated/give him a pick me up now that he's injured. I don't think it's too ridiculous to think he would have been mentioned if the same breath as Cordner were he not injured.

  19. Sultan Pepper HG Emm

he would not* have been mentioned in the same breath as Cordner

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

Yeah maybe. I don't think Fittler is that deep a thinker but maybe.
