Probably one good thing I can take is only giving up 30 to the Storm in spite of nearly 40 missed tackles, 15 errors and the penalties conceded being horrendous.

Paul Green's scathing post match assessment pretty much highlighted believing their own hype. Mixture of that and rust but it's really good to see he doesn't sugar coat and actually tears the players a new one and will even cite such reasons as that.

Early days but I did not see St George and NZ being the only undefeated teams after 3 rounds.

  4. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

They have both had an easy start.

True but so did Canberra and they’re 0/3. St George isn’t that surprising given they’re notorious fast starters but the Warriors generally aren’t.

Warriors are the real deal too IMO (in the sense that this isn't just a flash in the pan). Their recruitment really went under the radar because of how volatile they can be as a club.

Tohu Harris is a beast and Blake Green was the perfect signing for their spine.

What on earth makes you think Parramatta will finish third?

  8. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

lol was waiting for this. Hand up, I was totally wrong. Fair play to you. Parramatta are gash this year so far.

Still think the Dragons will fade out a bit but yeah I was way off on these.

I had some serious reservations about the Cowboys when most people were saying they were shoe-ins for another GF but I didn't see them being 1 from 5.

Writing was on the wall when they barely scraped a win against Melbourne's young guns in that testimonial. Probably should have beaten Brisbane if they hadn't clocked off in the first half but generally through they've been extremely lazy. A second half of not conceding a try against the unbeaten Warriors however I can see probably being the start of their turn around.

    Dolt.

I didn't actually post about it, so if I was more of a dick I'd just be lol'n at you cunts rating Parramatta highly, but I had them top four as well. In fact I think I had them as grand finalists with the Roosters. Looks a long way off now.

One thing I did get right, although I'm not sure I posted about this either, was Melbourne having a pretty poor start. I rate Croft as a young half and Cameron Smith always made Cronk look slightly better than he was IMO, but in saying that I still didn't get why so many people thought Melbourne could lose Cronk and just not skip a beat. It was always going to take some time for their attack to gel again. They could finish really strongly and bust into the grand final, but it's not going to be from a top two position after 26 rounds.

Melbourne are underdone in general imo.

Uncharacteristic errors is a result of their age in some key areas. Slater, Smith etc are still great players don't get me wrong but their enough of their best that these errors are creeping in and they're subsequently getting punished for it.

Croft is terrible at this stage in his career. Probably would have succeeded in Melbourne's mistake free, possession game but at the moment he's not experienced enough at this level to be effective.

I think it’s an uncharacteristic hangover from the last two years. Beaten by the Sharks then trounced the Cows. That’s a long time to be up, so to speak. They’ll come good once the errors are mitigated and Croft plays like the player he is rather than Cooper Cronk mkii. Word is he’s got a massive rap on himself.

  16. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Well he just got dropped, so maybe that rap on himself will take a hit.

  17. Toolman TR Man

    You reckon they'll finish 6th?

  18. Magic AJ Parker

Can't underestimate the loss of Tohu Harris either, he's just about the best 2nd rower going around at the moment.

  19. Maroon_Faithful M Faithful

    Nah top 4 imo.

I think its grown out of their ability to adjust to all their other losses. Important cogs like Inglis, Widdop and Blake Green left everyone thinking they've got a system that will just adjust without Cronk. Similarly to how they never really missed Hoffman and Proctor (far lesser extent) left everyone thinking Harris buggering off was no big deal.

Obviously Cronk was much more important, but I think a lot of people had similar thoughts to you about Cronk being made to look better than he was and that a decent club half could slot in and do the same.
