I suppose that means Wallace was playing at the ball when Milford booted straight into his head and knocked him out. There's a reason they changed the rule - it allowed kickers to deliberately aim for defenders to get 6 again.

He was making a tackle, definitely not playing at the ball.

Doesn't making a tackle = playing at the ball?

Green should almost win coach of the year. To get to a prelim with this side is unbelievable.

    Er........no.

Refs have been ruling it as played at for most of the year. I agree it shouldn't be 6 again but like the ruling they make on defenders wrapping their arms in a tackle on a player passing the balls the refs seem to rule 6 again more often than not.

Rightly or wrongly I can understand the frustration in the inconsistent interpretations.

Hard to go past Bellamy. Melbourne are in a different comp.

A lot of sides being made to look better than they are because of a very weak comp IMO.

True but no Thurston or Scott and heaps of other short term injuries. Amazing effort.

I don't think that's the interpretation though. It's just referee mistakes thinking it's been played at. It's extremely grey because it happens so fast. This one was clear cut and they got it right yet AVA is still bagging them. That opinion comes from frustration rather than fair-mindedness imo.

Nah, that's definitely called played at if it's a regular season game. Cowboys got one last week where the ball was called played at during the act of making a tackle.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the refs for the game. We got away with Mau not getting sent to the bin for 10 minutes, as well as most likely what should have been an 8 point try.

The interpretation is that if the ball hits you while making a tackle you're automatically deemed to be playing at it. However, that's just from an attempted pass, not from a kick. If there was some logic applied it would be the same for both but it isn't.

Lol really? Fair enough, makes no sense but there you go.

Not mentioned by the commentators but that tackle on Mitchell Moses by Ethan Lowe (I think) was a huge moment in the game. He was going to score for all money and parra would've regained the lead.

Lowe was excellent. Made 3 or 4 huge tackles including that one to bring Moses down just short of the line along with pushing Will Smith out to the touch line.

Are you sure? That's in tackles where it comes off the hand/arm of a defender. I don't believe it's ever been the interpretation that a pass into the torso or head of a defender is played at ala Glasby in Origin. There may have been some of these called 6 to go but that referee mistake is it not?

Either way that's not what Anasta, Warren etc are talking about. They want all kicks into chasers to nullify the tackle count. That's just silly.

Green's tenure has been incredible. He's gone semi final, Cows first premiership, prelim, prelim. People, including me, didn't give the Cows a chance after Thurston went down in addition to Scott plus injuries to Coote, O'Neill, Winterstein etc.

I obviously still can't see them winning the comp but there is so much fucking heart at the club.

I actually wish he'd been allowed to coach both the Cows and QLD. He's had success in practically every job he's been given right back to the Qcup with Wynnum.

I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain Taumalolo touched it with his hand.

Just imagine if the Dragons had beaten the Doggies in round 26. Crazy what the Cowboys have managed to achieve.

They tend to rule this way if a player is passing, but not if a player is kicking.

I remember the days when you didn't need to play at the ball at all, and cunts like Cliffy Lyons would just put grubbers into players legs and get six again. That's why the rule was brought in. They changed the interpretation for passing a few years ago because players were playing at the ball regularly but making it look like they weren't.. but for kicking it needs to be the way it is.
