It's been a remarkable improvement, because it wasn't just Thurston doing his job for him, it was Coote as well. In attack Coote was really playing more like a half and Morgan more like a fullback. He's gone from a third option playmaker used primarily as a support player to being one of the best halves in the comp.

More than even Coote doing his job previously though, the first few games after Thurston went down this season really show how far he's come. Rather than use Morgan at seven right away, Green opted to use a front rower there and keep Morgan in more or less the same role he'd been playing previously. Asiata was getting far more touches in those games they played together, and honestly looked more likely to do something creative as well. That's how little faith Green had in Morgan as a genuine half. It was only after Thurston re-injured himself and was out for the year rather than just a few games that Green took a punt on actually giving Morgan control of the team. It was a real bottom of the barrel thing.

I've always been a big fan of Morgan as an overall player, but if I was a recruitment officer for another club I definitely wouldn't have been looking at him if I needed a dominant half before this season. He's really proven me wrong on his ability as a proper half.

Reminds me of that thread comparing Morgan with Foran. Morgan has kind of confirmed what some of us said there.
