You guys are callled St George Illawarra for a reason. It already is enough of a farce that the Northern Eagles were able to discard the North Sydney heritage and call themselves Manly Warringah again.

Its especially offensive considering your most profitable leagues club AND your only FG quality home ground are both in Woolongong.

That Warriors away jersey is mint. Love throwback/retro designs.

I personally want to see the Rabbitohs use the black style traditional jersey for the home games and utilise the mintie wrapper jersey for away games.

Seeing as we had the white style traditional as the away this season it shouldn't create clashes.

North Sydney did fuck all to keep the merger going. Instead Manly went broke fighting the ARL's war against Super League & lost even more money bailing the Bears out of their debt.

The North Sydney side of the merger did everything in their power to undermine Manly, from the boardroom to the fans, in the hope of gaining the independent franchise license & to rub Manly out of the game.

Manly acted in accordance, got their finances together while North Sydney fucked around & pissed & moaned to every media outlet that would listen to their tripe.

Ever since, Manly haven't looked back whilst North Sydney & their supporters have continued to whinge & claim to have been "railroaded" by Manly when in fact it was the other way around. Manly acted to maintain their survival whereas North Sydney played their part in their own downfall.

 

I fully agree. But if it was any other club that merged with North Sydney, what the Bears did & didn't do would be talked about with a much more impartial point of view. But, because it's Manly the absolute bullshit is accepted, fiction passed off as fact because it gives people something else to add to the list of reasons as to why they hate Manly.

 

I'm not going to pretend to know everything about the Manly/Norths merger, however you cannot be serious claiming that you do Nady. Your club is far from a financial success story, what I do have knowledge of extensively is the fact that Manly used Norths to avoid potential expulsion. Under the codes criteria when culling down to 14 both Norths and Manly were in the shit primarily due to the shithouse faciliites at both NS oval and Brookvale. The projected construction of what was called Graeme Park at the time saved your fucking ass along with the fact u could use the Central Coast as your junior pathway.


This almost forced a foundation club, with most successful history, better facilities, and the largest junior base in the metropolitan area to be illegally excluded for 2 seasons. The day it was announced was one of the saddest days of my life if not the saddest to that point. So much so that I donated mu 10th birthday celebrations and received no presents to enable myself to go to Sydney and march to the town hall.

So forgive me if I won't cop your uninformed misrepresentations Nady.

 

The one who is uninformed is yourself. I know every part of the merger. Why it was forced (which had nothing to do with facilities, it was financial). How it was an unhappy marriage the whole 3 years. Why, when, where & how it failed.

North Sydney were in debt & owed player salaries. Manly paid out their debt & player salaries. Manly were a financial powerhouse up until the Super League war & went broke fighting it. They were in the same boat which was, quite simply, merge or die.
Manly didn't need North Sydney's junior development program or area to survive & Graeme Park was built not for the merger, but for North Sydney & the Bears & their fans did everything they could to let the Manly contingent know it & to know that they were not welcome or wanted.

They got enough money together over the course of 3 years while North Sydney did everything they could to destroy Manly. Even going so far as to claim Manly were not holding up their end of the deal. After 3 years, Manly bought the license from the NRL & stood alone & the Bears perished.

The poor facilities had nothing to do with it. They played at Brookvale & at Gosford (splitting their home games). Brookvale has still had fuck all done in regards to updates & renovations (that it has been promised on a number of occasions by State & Federal Governments combined, but the Council is the constant thorn in the side of progress there. But that is another matter entirely).

So next time, don't speak shit & make false statements regarding why the clubs had to merge. Don't accuse Manly of "illegally" obtaining the independent license & don't blame them for the Bears being excluded. North Sydney tried to sabotage Manly & in the end have only themselves to blame for their own demise.
