Positions where your club needs another signing

Yeah they definitely need accept that their reserve wingers aren't acceptable replacements for an injured centre. None of their wingers can handle centre at all.

    Smith-Shields is alright though.

Centre and 2nd row are such hard positions to build depth for, they're very much specialist positions and 80min positions so you never build any depth through bench rotation and if you're a decent centre stuck behind 2 starting centres you're almost guaranteed the pick of 15 other clubs these days.

Its why I think players like Brad Takarangi and Kyle Turner are undervalued as squad players.

Yet Penrith have several of them. Whare not playing any first grade is insanity. Probably 12-13 clubs could use him.

  4. Julian BJ Taylor

    yep especially Takairangi

Suaali will do nicely. Plus we pissed off Souffs in the process that's a double win

What is the plan with him? The kid wants a get out clause in his contract for every season, and Roosters think he will happily play on the wing for 5 or so years waiting for Teddy to retire? Unless the Roosters win the comp, he will get out of there for the biggest offer that has the #1 jersey with it.

In 5yrs time he’ll be 22. Where else would you rather go to build a career at the moment? Bennett’s a journeyman these days and will probably retire soon and Bellamy by the sounds of it probably has another 12-24months max left before he gives it up or moves into a advisory role somewhere else.

If you’re a young talented kid you could do a lot worse than attaching yourself to Trent Robinson even if it meant having to play your first few seasons in first grade out of position whilst being an understudy to James Tedesco.

Probably a fair chance he does move for an opportunity too but do you pass up on potential generational talent in the fear they will become too good and leave?

If it is on good money and you are doing all the development without any of the potential reward you might.

That's the risk of developing any highly rated junior though right or investing in any kind of junior development to a larger extent?

Plenty will flop and only a few will work out but the alternative of just not investing is far more detrimental to the success of a club.

I also don't think you can forward plan more than about 12-24 months in professional sports. 1 injury, controversy or poaching raid from another club can quickly leave you with a problem you never saw coming.

Re-signing Latrell Mitchell up to a fat contract as a teenager when he had RTS sitting in front of him arguably made less sense than this signing.

Recruit the best starting player you can and then recruit the best back up option you can. Don't think it needs to get much more complicated than that.

I don't think it's a bad move by the chooks, but I certainly don't see him lasting the 5 years there

I don't think it's a bad move either. But just going off what I've seen play out in the media with his demands, 0% chance he waits for the 1 jersey.

Think the Panthers are looking a little light in the outside backs. Not sold on Staines at all as a winger so far and Robert Jennings should only be a depth player.

The rumour of Goates to Penruff made me sick.

Not really sold on Staines as a first grader.

Heard alot about him being a really promising fullback but even when he has had his opportunities there he hasn't impressed and it's not like he's got a superstar sitting in the pecking order ahead of him, even Crichton was being picked ahead of him at times. But it was clear when Edwards was out with injury last year that the Panthers are a much better side with him at the back than any of their other options.

How is Drinkwater not playing for Cows? He is their best 1 and 6, and walks into multiple other NRL starting sides.

Yeh I said it when they signed Townsend, feels like a really unnecessary signing and I don't think he's the experienced organising halfback they think they were getting.

    Pretty epic thread-rez.

It's hard to say for the Broncos until we see how Reynolds fits in, he should solve a few issues Broncos have had for a while as he's a competent organiser with a great kicking game.

In the past I've pointed out the Broncos' poor edge defence (shit like 4 man overlaps, wingers going in untouched even when they have the numbers, different combinations every game); both positionally and in communication, and it appears at this stage that Capewell is really helping that at least on his side.

Hooker is an issue as Turpin has more or less forgot his running game which put him on the radar in the first place. Though I'm not a huge Paix fan.

Kelly and Walters seem pretty solid, though Kelly doesn't seem a long-term solution and Walters looks to be more of a serviceable backup half/bench utility player than a permanent 6. I want to see Mamm get the nod before another team snaps him up like Walsh.

As for Moreton Bay-Redcliffe Dolphins? They need plenty.

Turpin is the 2nd best spine player for Brisbane. We desperately need a 1 and 6 before even looking at changing the 9.

Turpin has been dogshit for a few seasons now.

Still think Staggs would be our best Fullback.

Think Cobbo and Mam have really high potential so I think your fullback and five-eighth situation isn't really that desperate long-term. Might be worth getting in a decent short-term fullback though, I guess?
