Click on the Single Content tab after you click advanced search. You should be able to figure it out from there (I'm guessing that's what you're not doing).
Anyone else keep going for 'private messages' and finding themselves with 'advanced search' these days
The change in forum software really hasn't solved the spammer problems. If anything, they're worse than before. Not that I suspect anyone is particularly bothered, but there we go.
Yeah it's been absolutely brutal lately. I've been tempted to just make registration admin-approve only given there's not a lot of reason for new people to join at the moment anyway, but it's obviously not a long term solution.
So few new members, that would seem sensible - but as you say, that's not a real solution. I thought this new software was supposed to solve these problems, but I'd say they're worse than they were under vBulletin.
I had a quick look at the Xenforo forums the other day and some people were talking about using some sort of paid subscription service to kill off spammers; I'll have to look into that.
I don't know if its because I haven't used the forums much of late, admin functions are different or the whole forum system is different, but deleting the threads they create is much more of a hassle than I remember.
I've turned on manual registration confirmations by admin which has obviously stemmed the flow, but it seems spammers actually give up after one registration gets put on that queue now rather than creating 20-30 accounts every day, which was a pleasant side effect. I only have to reject about five fake new users every day. Definitely a lot easier than deleting huge arrays of spam, and it also means you guys don't have to see it if you log on before I do.
Probably alright to have manual approval anyway at the moment, given the lack of activity. Doubt there's going to be a flurry of interested posters unless some Rugby League forum shuts down.
Yeah it was never going to be a huge drama, I'm just glad I don't have reject 40 accounts per day. That's about how many were joining before I set that, so I guess spammers don't bother creating more than one account if it doesn't get approved automatically.
I was wondering why all the spam had disappeared. Good that your solution has worked. I don't know why the fuck I'm checking daily still though, lol.
