I'm reading Chimpanzee Politics. It's pretty good. Expensive though. $19 just for the kindle version.

I just looked at my avi after making that post. Lol. Me reading this book is very much like that white guy studying the abos.

Only about 35 pages in, but all good so far, starts around 1800 with the Ottoman empire, actually been a bit in there about Jews, Christians and other religious minorities being permitted to live there, but having to pay additional tax and being 2nd class citizens etc. I bought the book when I was in Istanbul last year and have had a really keen interest in Ataturk and Turkey since being there. Didn't realise it was written as a textbook when I bought it but doesn't read like one at all.

Like 150 pages in. There's no spoilers cause nothing's happened yet. They just found out the girl with the wagon was pretending to be a boy. It's a bit hard to follow because there's been about 150 characters with 14 different languages and 50 different cities already.

DHG is good as well. I think I was more interested in Duiker's side of the story that the others so I rate MoI a bit higher.

Yeah, Tehol and Bugg were awesome together. Trull was my favourite though. Those random skirmishes with the Jheck made me like him quite a bit.

It does take off. He's just building the setting.

I really like Geder as a character. I enjoyed his chapters the most through the series.

Red Rising trilogy. It was fucking awesome, especially the first book. Going to be made into a movie or something I hear.

  10. Toolman TR Man

I'm reading that right now. Almost finished the 3rd book. Thought the 2nd was easily the best.

2nd was pretty awesome as well. Loved the cliffhanger ending, even though I got right into the 3rd like the next day.

Thanks so much for encouraging me to persist with the series.

I'm currently a third way through DoD, I'm already anticipating re-reading the series when I'm done.

Erikson is hands down the best writer I've experienced. The scope is just insane, yet once you're immersed it's not too difficult to grasp. Overall however, my favorite part of his writing is the philosophical musings scattered throughout the text. He really is brilliant.

Oh, and Tehol and Bug are fucking great, as are Telorast and Curdle, and Iskaral and Mogora Pust.

He injects great comic relief in what is quite a dark toned series.

Finished Deadhouse Landing. While Esslemont isn't as great a writer as Erickson, his later booksare strong efforts.

Just started reading it. Loving it so far. The Ascendancy series has been really well done

Nice. Midnight Tides is my equal fav of the series with Toll the Hounds.

So true on re-reads. I'm on Memories of Ice in my third read-through, after having done Ian's books and Kharkanas; so many things just jump out of the page.

I've been using audiobooks for my re-reading of the series. Drive for 2ish hours a day so really helps kill the time. Finished the entire main series + most of the side books already, has been great.

I like the way you think, I jump between mediums depending on how I feel at the time: eBook/aBook/real book.

I think we have enough fans on here to warrant it's own thread tbh. I check the Malaz Empire forum every now and then, however there is just too many who would beat whom? threads etc.

I think, strangely enough, Gardens of the Moon has almost been my favourite. Memories of Ice would be up there too. I guess it makes that cast of characters my favourite, lol. Quick Ben and Kruppe and co. I enjoyed the Coltaine parts in Deadhouse Gates, Karsa parts in House of Chains, and Tehol and Bugg parts in Midnight Tides.
