I think most Austrians recommend reading Rothbard's 'Man, Economy and State' before Human Action.

  2. Dan DB Wayne

Oh God Emm don't read Rothbard. Rothbardians are the worst.

I tried once. The language was so off-putting that I couldn't go past the first chapter.

Currently reading Those Summers of Cricket : Richie Benaud, it's not too bad but I'm definitely glad that someone gave it to me as a gift over Christmas.

Also might be a long shot but has anyone here read or have any opinion on Buddhist Boot Camp by Timber Hawkeye ?

Spoiler in this post feel free to skip

i read the 490 page long women in love by dh Lawrence, someone dies near the end. I was so emotionally invested in the characters that i was mad at the book for a couple of days and mad at one of the characters. Sign of a good book I guess if it got that reaction from me. Now moving into a novel by Franz Kafka called amerika

    Amerika
i had to read the critic's analysis of the book to get the full meaning. On the surface it is a story of misfortune about a young immigrant and his trials of finding a living in the USA around 1900
the themes of the book and the undercurrent is largely about rape or at a minimum sexual encounters where one person has the other at an advantage. The book goes further though and plays with the consequences of the authorities intervening followings an event. And in this book unless you can tell your side of the story in front of a hostile crowd then you will be unsuccessful. Everything is implied but the overtones are overpowering. I may do some more googling about the book which is the advantage of reading the classics, ie it is easy to find commentary on the book.

Just finished the second book in the Malazan series. The first wasn't anything special and it was slow going for a while during the second book, but that ending really changed things and it ended up being fairly interesting.

Yeah, it really picks up and becomes amazing imo. I've actually just got the audiobooks and started a re-listen on my drive to and from uni every day

Memories of Ice is fucking amazing. That, Midnight Tides, and The Bonehunters are among my favourite books ever. Toll the Hounds was decent but the others aren't as good as those three (and Deadhouse Gates) IMO.

It's partially your fault. You were the one who introduced me to that site where you get all the free e-books.

I've started on Memories of Ice and have high expectations. :)

Just finished The Dagger and the Coin series by Daniel Abraham.

    Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Themes include: War, Politics, Religious Fanaticism, Economy, History.

The operation of the banks is what I found very interesting.

Yeah, smashed that series out at the start of the year, finished it when the most recent one came out a few months ago. Thought they were fantastic, really enjoyed all of them.
