No way would World Rugby would have come out and said it was wrong if it wasn't definitely wrong.

Just went back and reviewed the clip. He was wrong. From my recollection of watching the game live I couldn't see that Phipps had touched the ball after the knock on by the first Scott, which is clear in the slowmo replay. Indeed was a wrong call.

Wonder how much hassle World rugby would have given Joubert if he had gone against protocol and used the TMO? How much would Aussies have complained if they then failed to score from the scrum?

It's not Phipps touching the ball that makes it wrong; it is Phipps intentionally touching the ball. Difficult to determine in real time.

Super pumped for this. Last two WC finals have been teams from the same pool, lets see it happen again!

I tell you I don't know who has the harder game.

    Probably the Australians.
I could believe Argentina have a better chance than RSA.

  8. Squeaks ZW Poole

Yeah I would say AB v SA is 60/40 maybe even 65/35 and Aus v Arg is 50/50

That Aus vs Arg game promises to be immense if Argentina can continue on their late run of form. If they play the same quality of rugby they did against the Irish I foresee problems for the Wobblies. But, the opposite also applies - if they are off their A-game just a little bit Aus will smack them.

The start of the Arg Aus game will be critical as I don't think Arg are good at chasing the game. Nasty team to get behind to, as ireland saw!

A v A contains so many possibilities depending on how the two teams approach it. Though I doubt Argentina will decimate Australia. They could beat them by 10 though.

Australia's lucky victory against Scotland has made people stop rating us which I think is a bit incorrect due to the following:
    1. We were without arguably our two best players in Pocock and Folau
    2. We scored 5 tries to 3 and but for uncharacteristically wayward kicking would have had the game wrapped up.
    3. We conceded 2 of the 3 tries to what I would class lucky non-defensive issues ie. charge down and intercept.

Obviously Foley could kick just as poorly and we could make those sloppy plays again but I just don't see it happening. We'll do in the Argies.

100% correct from start to finish.

Benching Kurtley Beale worries me though.

  14. Squeaks ZW Poole

Didn't think Pocock would be fit, he is so gives the Aussies a much better chance.

Pocock is the player of the tournament so far for me. He's just been immense, massive boost having him back. I genuinely think he's the difference between being a side I'd tip to win it and not, he's that good

Beale is much more effective coming off the bench imo. He's a phenomenal impact player going forward, and aginst tired defences that'll cause havoc, but his defensive qualities aren't that good and the Argentinians look great out wide.

If they learn from their poorest game to date they'll be more than a handful.

That said Argentina seems to be getting better and better.

Australia just can't expect to win before the game is played.

Your forgot one other reason from your list. Australia thought they just had to show up to win. That is an embellishment obviously but there was some of that.

Yes to all those reasons you listed - and for those reasons alone I have tipped Australia to win by 1-12 points. But you won't be "doing in the Argies". Forget that idea right now. If you win by 7 points then be happy you had a good day at the office.

I see both teams being on par at up front. And I see Australia being too good in the backs.

But Australia's showing against Scotland showed they may be a bit naive and may underrate their opponents. You must play each match expecting the opposition will play at 120% of their abilities. We used to joke about that concept all the time in University. We used to watch American Gladiator and there was one contestant who kept winning. At each interview he would say something similar "This week I operated around 125% - next week I will go to about 150% maybe even kick it up to 200%". And we all laughed because you can't be at more than 100% of your abilities.

But we were wrong and human beings can operate at more than 100% of their abilities on very special occassions and rugby world cups in front of millions of people and playing for your nation is very strong concoction that does amazing things to people.

Australia should win. But this will be fucking tight. Good luck to both teams.

I am starting to work myself up too much and may have to have a beer to settle.

These games are going to be immense.

Squeaks said he was pumped. Well it hit me about 30 minutes ago. I need another adjective beyond pumped. The adrenaline is flowing.
