How to know which side of the field to select players on

Yeah the first side is good attacking wise.... The other is just average at best.

  2. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Our left side is a bit weaker, but it is going to change. Our right side is definitely the strongest in the comp.

Mogg will be doing a fair bit with Harrison hopefully. Might also look at playing Whatuira in the centres with Mogg on the wing.

  4. Julian BJ Taylor

We also have the option of playing Fien at 7 as the organising half and Lincoln Withers at hooker.

  5. Colesy BL Hornby

Finch O'Meley Hindmarsh Mad Dog Sailor on one side

Carney Perry/another Prop Creagh Moon BMoz on hte other

    Pretty good variations there.

  6. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Vinnie has played centre this year, he is an option with Mogg outside him.

  7. Julian BJ Taylor

I thought he played mainly second row?

  8. Lukic L Popovic

Puletua, Locky, Sonny Bill, Inu, Quinn goes is quite gun.

Shillington, Sherwin, Burgess, Ryan, Rooney is a bit ordinary.

  9. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

Been playing centre according to the ESL site.

Our two halves are Wallace and Prince...

Prince will be our organiser yet is more creative than Wallace imo anyway, you say "On the same side as your primary organiser should be the prop, second rower, centre and winger who are most adept at making ground." What effect will having you primary organiser on the potent side rather than 'workhorse' side?

  11. Julian BJ Taylor

Just depends if yr other half can organise i guess,

  12. Incey BC Jacobs

It's going to be interesting for us, a few trades could be a possibility.

  13. Boobidy BJ Gemmell

    Dobson for Wallace.

  14. Magic AJ Parker

Well Wallace can but you wouldn't make him primary organiser over Prince...

  15. Julian BJ Taylor

I honestly reckon Dobson is a better halfback than Wallace.

Wallace is a five-eighth. People tend to forget that.

  16. Incey BC Jacobs

    Wallace is our five-eighth lol.

Mogg playing wing would be a massive mistake imo. Takes his ball palying skills out of it.

You'd probably find things working the opposite to what you'd like if you did that, tbh. Early in each set, the ball goes the direction of the primary organiser more than the other way.. and late in the set it generally spins back the other way and does a backline movement out towards the side of the half who isn't the primary organiser. Obviously it doesn't work this way *every* time but it happens more often than not, so you'd potentially waste your best attacking outside backs a little bit by putting them on the same side as your primary organiser, and your best metre-eating forwards by having them on the other side.

In your situation I'd tend to put my best metre-eating front rower on Prince's side, but I'd still put a good hole-running second rower there too. You have Watmough IIRC? Definitely Prince's side.

As far as the backs go.. creativity tends to work best in conjunction with the hole-running attribute, so if you have backs that are good at genuinely beating/breaking tackles rather than those who run good lines, I'd definitely put them on Wallace's side as creativity won't have a huge baring on how they go anyway, and they'll get more ball that way. Hole-runners would be best suited on Prince's side though - even if they got less ball they'd be more dangerous running off him than Wallace.

To use an example, and I know you don't actually have these players.. but if I had your halves combination and also had Josh Morris and Justin Hodges, Morris would go on Prince's side to run into holes created by him and Hodges would go on Wallace's side to get more ball and create gaps for himself rather than running into them.

This isn't to say Wallace is shit at either creating or organising, btw, as he's quite capable of playing both roles. Don't read this and think he's crap and you have to trade him. :p

I think we all know that Prince is superior in both aspects though and when you have such a disequilibrium in the halves, looking at the actual strengths of your centres and wingers, and whether they make their breaks by running good lines or by footwork/strength, is important.

Certainly not what we would've gone with...

Put Best on Wallace's side and one of M Aubusson or R Williams on Prince's side.

Will we be having trial games??
