With the announcement of a bunch of new rules just wondering what people think of the 2pt field goal.

I don't reckon we will see one in 2021.

In golden point they try them from everywhere so some dude might pop one over. Unlikely in regular play.
How many 40 metre plus field goals have there ever been? 5 or 6?

On another note the 6 again for inside the ten metres will have a massive impact on the game.
The most decisive element of the defensive competence between the top 6 teams and the bottom 6 is line speed. This move could even the playing field.

2 point field goal. We didn't see a 20/40 in an entire season (though there should have been plenty of opportunities). A 40m field goal happens a couple of times a season. It will definitely be a more viable end of half strategy so we should see an uptick in attempts too.

or 20/40 with the tap taken just inside the 40, passed to the first receiver standing just outside the 40 who slots over the field goal to end a half imo.

I voted for 20/40 but I think we'll see some two-point field goals even when one point would've done, just because that's where the ball ends up being played.

Not a fan of the 2 point FG, gives Broncos a reason to pick Isaako

Think I said this in a group chat. Broncos only way to score points will be to work it to the 20m and throw 2 passes back to Isucko 5-6 times per game.

But it means he plays, so don't like it.

Why'd they introduce a 2pt field goal? Won't that mean less footy? If a team is down by 2 instead of going for a try they might try this crap instead.

I reckon it will make attempting 40m field goals a somewhat viable strategy in the middle of a game too.

Assuming players start training specifically to hit 40m field goals, what is a viable percentage that would be kicked? 1/6? What percentage of those that are missed will go dead/be caught in the in-goal? Let's say 1/3. Then lets say the rest, about half of the kicks don't go dead and aren't made. Most will end up with the defending team receiving the ball inside their own 20 and possibly 10 depending on how shit the kick was and the way it bounces.

If you're a team with a gun field goal kicker against a team with a back 3 that's good under the high ball or good at working it out of their own end, it might be a worthwhile strategy to attempt a field goal on every kick around the 40 rather than putting up a bomb.

Surely 99/100 times you'd only be going for a 40m+ field goal in golden point, in which case the 2pts is redundant.

Yeah I think a lot of the time teams will get two points when they only need one anyway.

I suppose if there's a second to go and you're playing it 35 out and 2 points behind you might snap one, but I fail to see how this actually adds something positive to game.

With how reactive PVL has been to fan feedback, I wouldn't be shocked if it was canned before round 1. I'm yet to see any positivity around it from anyone.

I'm kinda surprised he greenlit it in the first place.

The other rules changes seem fine to me.

The zero tackle rule makes it a bit riskier, but if I were coaching I'd definitely be setting my team up to take a couple of shots early from about the 45m mark, with the thought that you might start to get the a and b defenders shooting up a bit and potentially opening up some holes.

I imagine hookers like Grant, Cook or Korisau could do some damage if you had Hughes/Reynolds/Cleary set back for a kick but instead duck down a short side to Munster/Walker/Luai.

Yeah agree with this, otherwise I reckon it also creates a window you might look to snap one of if you're up by 6,12,18 etc to finish a half

Aids. I dont really care as long as it doesnt lead us down the path of, say, a try scored from 50m+ being worth more.

Oh fuck I hadn't even thought that they might do this, but they totally could.

What is next? Four point conversions for scoring another try off one play like in American Football?

Bring in junior rules, X amount of passes needed to get the maximum points from a try.

Double points if a woman scores to promote equality.
