Because it’s a tragically awful pick. Morgie was drafting like a god for 6 rounds and then drove his picks off a cliff, and somehow he’s managed to make it worse.

  2. Phlegm SP Phlegm

all downhill from the lakmal pick

    Round 15
    1. MrPrez - Imran Tahir (40618)
A fair while since he's last played FC cricket, but at least his record was good when doing so and has long maintained a quality ODI one. A good pick for now I think.

    2. HeathDavisSpeed - Nosaina Pokana (646181)
Yeah, a bit of a weak pick I think. No real FC record behind him and his small ODI record is mostly against fellow associates.

    3. Captain - James Hildreth (15348)
Would've been an incredible amount of luck for him to slide to Round 15 about four years ago, his last three years however have been patchy. I guess them coming on Taunton will help though and it's Div 1 stuff so he could still be OK.

    4. Phlegm - Dean Brownlie (4493)
His form has also been very up and down lately. Still I suspect Plunket Shield cricket has a lot of value and it's been fairly bowler friendly in recent time so again he might have some value.

    5. Julian - Sean Williams (55870)
Potentially a very good pick. Strong recent ODI record and can bowl. Maintains a nice FC record too. A lot will depend on the Sri Lanka Tests though.

    6. Chewie - Shivam Dube (714451)
Hard to say - most people reckon he's a hackfraud, and he might well be. But even though the sample size is small it's imposing. So might actually be good.

    7. Boobidy - Mark Cosgrove (4818)
His last two years have been pretty bad which is a bit of a problem. At least he did well before that though so might still be OK, but it's a weak-ish pick.

    8. spark!ptz - Cameron Gannon (326635)
Will get nerfed for chucking, so a terrible pick :p. Hard to know how only really taking wickets for half a season will work, but at least he's been dominant enough this season that he should be OK.

    9. jimmy_c8 - Harry Podmore (514398)
One season wonder and even then his average was merely good so hard to call. Guess it came in Div 1 so might be OK.

    10. Howe and Dan - Eoin Morgan (24598)
I think how his ODI stuff gets scaled is interesting as he's long been a much better white ball than red ball player. Still I think R15 was a bit late for him to go and he was someone I was eyeing off so I rate it.

    11. morgieb - Nicholas Pooran (604302)
Obviously given the small sample size there's risk attached, but his ODI form has been dominant enough that he should still be OK. Has awesome retention value too if CPL is still running for years to come.

    12. Cabinet96 - Manoj Tiwary (35565)
Unfortunately has been pretty average since his injury all those years ago. He hasn't really played any A-team or Duleep stuff to make his record look better either so it's all crappy Ranji stuff. It's not a horrid record but even now I think it's a weak pick.

    13. Baxter - James Faulkner (270484)
Hasn't played much cricket that counts in recent history which could be a problem. He was a good enough cricketer in his prime that he would've been taken in the first three-four rounds about five years ago so that might help a bit and his ODI bowling form remained better for longer than I expected so he might still be OK but it's a gamble even at this point.

    14. Skippos - Brendon McCullum (37737)
Big big risk. It's been a very long time since McCullum last played non-T20 cricket and he was never that incredible when playing full-time either. At least he has some good utility value that might make it OK.

    15. StephenZA - Lakshan Sandakan (429738)
Oddly his Test form upon dropping was actually pretty decent statisically (if against weak players of spin at home) so he might still be OK for this. But poor ODI form and his FC record being nothing special for the conditions he plays in makes this a fairly average pick rather than a great one. At least he adds some variety to your attack.

    16. Dhokchau - Sheldon Jackson (23769)
Ehhh....it's not a terrible pick but he hasn't really stood out in FC cricket recently, there's no A-team/Duleep stuff that sprinkles it in recent times and IIRC his home pitch is a road. Doesn't keep much either. A bit meh.

    17. Gazza - Rilee Rossouw (318845)
Unfortunately his form since heading to England has been fairly ordinary. He did do well before becoming a Kolpak but that was a while ago now. I guess I can see the logic given some of the other picks in the round, though.

    18. Number 11 - Luis Reece (347661)
Some no-rounder risk I guess given it's only one season but it was a great one with the ball, and he opens too which allows for some position versatility. I rate it.

    19. Magrat Garlick - Sinethemba Qeshile (952207)
Not the biggest sample size but it's not exactly tiny, and his record is rather good with that sample size. Good pick.

    20. Hunter - Fakhar Zaman (512191)
Another very fine pick. Form this season is a worry but his record before then was rather good and his ODI record is still excellent. Was very close to picking him a couple of rounds earlier.

    21. GoodAreasShane - Tabraiz Shamsi (379145)
Not much of a recent FC record behind him (and when he has played he hasn't been amazing) and his ODI one is poor. I guess his overall FC record is still good so he might have some value I guess, and there's not many left-arm wrist spinners around.

    22. Alex - Sam Robson (272485)
Has been pretty dodgy in recent times and unlike some of the other picks doesn't even have the excuse of it being in Div 1. Not a great pick alas.

    23. Athlai - Luke Feldman (366580)
You picked a cop who's dad was the parliamentary leader of One Nation (yes I know it's harsh to blame him on his dad's career but given he joined the Queensland police force the apple doesn't fall far from the tree IMO). You lose. (In all seriousness, actually a good pick at this point even if he's now retired)

    24. Benny - Colin Ackermann (379774)
This is a good pick. Strangely his county form hasn't been incredible but his SA domestic form is good and he can bowl too.

    Best pick:

I'm gonna say Fakhar. Morgan very very close.

    Worst pick:

Lots of average picks, but no real terrible ones (hard to make a true stinker of a pick at this point though). McCullum or Pokana probably.

  4. Athlai JJD Heads

    Best pick Sean Williams.
    Worst pick Baz

  5. Dan DB Wayne

At this point of the draft you need to be more worried if morgie rates your pick that if he doesn't tbh

Chewie, Gazza and Athlai like this.
  6. morgieb MC Burridge

So....what does that mean for your pick then? :p

  7. Gazza GJ Weaver

Rilee almost averaging 40 last season in county div 1 where averages were a tad low, nice one morgan

  8. GoodAreasShane S Thexton

Arguably three chuckers picked this round, definitely two at least. Bleughhh

  9. morgieb MC Burridge

    Who are the other two?

  10. GoodAreasShane S Thexton

Pokana definitely. I'm a touch suspicious of Podmore too, but he might be alright

  11. morgieb MC Burridge

I've seen zero footage of either so that makes sense. Just hoping I wasn't forgetting someone obvious.

  12. morgieb MC Burridge

Yeah looking back on it my words were a bit harsh. Averaging 40 + 35 in the last two seasons isn't great but it's not terrible, it's really not a worse pick than say Brownlie or Hildreth when I come across as bagging it.

  13. Captain SSD Dong

Rilee used to get picked up so early in drafts before he went kolpak

  14. morgieb MC Burridge

Yeah maybe that's why I sounded so harsh on the pick, his FC performances have definitely deteriorated from his peak despite only being 30.

  15. Alex AJ O'Driscoll

Is the gulf between County Div 1 and Div 2 that big?

  16. morgieb MC Burridge

I guess it depends on the sort of player. I think it's pretty significant for bowlers, whereas it's noticeable but not that significant for batsmen.

I might be exaggerating the situation though.

  17. Cribbage RG Cribb

Harry Podmore was a great pick just for the chance he runs through @Gazza's team and we can post the video of him spitting the dummy over getting out to him in AC17.

  18. morgieb MC Burridge

    Is this still public?

  19. Gazza GJ Weaver

I don’t even remember this, but i can see myself doing this

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

You'd got out to medium pacers fairly regularly for a few episodes, and when you got out to Podmore it was the last straw and you totally spat it.

"Aw fuck you Podmore!! Running in and bowling 115km/hr" etc. Might've been a controller throw, even. One of your better dummy spits. I'll try to find it.
