Would be the ultimate irony if we won a premiership with neither Cronk or Pearce at halfback.

I wonder who the Storm would use if Slater is out. Drinkwater has been killing it in the QLD Cup, I wouldn't be surprised if he's considered the long term option over Hughes or whoever.

Yeah I’d play Drinkwater but he needs to be protected on kick returns because of his size. He should be passing whenever reasonably possible because Easts will monster him.

That said Hughes is a huge talent as well so either way...

Hughes covers the halves as well so I’d give pretty serious thought to playing him, actually.

I'm sure they'll play Cronk, even with one arm. They have matterson and radley there to switch at any time if he proves to be completely useless, or they may name sullivan on the bench as well. I hope they use radley though.

That photo in The Australian doesn’t look promising...

Melbourne v. Easts....is there a way both sides could lose?

What's the general feel towards Slater's charge? (I'm not huge on rugby and genuinely surprised that there's any issue with contact like that)

    It’s a disgrace that he’s been charged. Frankly I think it’s a joke that it’s even a penalty.

Slater gets off. Everyone I've seen talk about it is salty af

Should have been suspended. I don't like the rule at all, but according to the rules he should have been suspended.

Oath we lost a player for 3 weeks through the finals series for a rule they re-wrote mid-season.

Billy Slater gets off a charge for a rule that's been in place for 5 seasons.

How the fuck could you not be a bit salty.

I think it would've been a total embarrassment to the game had he missed the grand final for that hit but those are the dumb ass rules they put in place.

I think it's a joke that finals game aren't treated as a different value to regular club games.

But yeh Billy Slater being the only one to be excluded from all those rulings when you watch your team get rammed up the ass through a finals series for similar leaves a touch of salt in the mouth.

This does nothing for the push to legalise the shoulder charge either anyway, which would've been a fair trade off.

If this in anyway forced them to change the rule they'd just say it's legal in a try scoring situation, or something along those lines, much like striping the ball or being able to tackle a player mid air when they're 'attacking'.

  14. Alec AD Funkotron

Yeah, rules are rules. I think if it wasn't his last game they would have suspended him though. Maybe if Cameron Smith didn't tell them what to do either.

NRL is just incredibly inconsistent with everything. No one really knows what's going on and it's falling behind AFL more and more.

Nup good call. Sets at least a base precedent from which similar incidents can be seen as legitimate. Him being found guilty would not have advanced our agenda one iota. The shoulder charge will never come back.

The way the rules are atm the last thing I want is consistency. Napa shouldn’t have been rubbed out but rubbing out Slater, whilst it does concord better with consistency, just makes two dumb decisions instead of one. Those are the breaks, and I defended Napa at the time.

Ftr I don’t have a problem with someone taking the opposite view that rules are rules and you need to be consistent. That’s a fair argument to make although I disagree with it. But these cunts who legitimately think that is worth missing a club game let alone a gf over are fucking bonkers.

I don’t see how Easts can win now with Cronk out...unless they’re foxing but it really doesn’t seem like he can play. What a shame...

Could be a historical irony given that Melbourne could be the first team to go back to back since Brisbane........and it may take both of their opponents missing their best half to actually happen.

Mind you if Slater played in 2016 I think Melbourne beat Cronulla.

  20. Cribbage RG Cribb

I think if they're consistent people just won't cop the rule though, and they'll have to change it.

I think we've now got a situation where they'll apply when most people dgaf about a player getting a suspension but not apply when there'd be outrage.. and we'll never get the rule changed if this is the case.

I hope I'm wrong and this ends up used as a precedent to get nonames off midseason too but I doubt it.
