    It's round 6 and I haven't seen a better option.

    What Maloney lacks as a organising half he makes up for in experience and composure.

    And I don't see a more naturally creative ball player for NSW other than Walker.

    I also refuse to consider Keary as an option as he's clearly not a New South Welshmen.

    I get it with Maloney. I've never really been a huge fan as I think he just straight up has a pretty limited skill set but he's been okay for NSW (excellent really compared with all the other halves we've selected throughout his career) and he's been effective at club level in his own way for the last few years. Deep deep down I want to leave him out, but realistically he should be starting and the only real question lies over what role precisely you give him. No gripes with the one you've got him pencilled in for.

    Walker though...

    I think you've fallen into a trap I used to quite a bit, and become so sure of the need for a specific type of player (to compliment another player or because you like to see the game played a certain way or whatever other reason) when a good one doesn't actually exist for NSW that you end up picking a player that is well short of standard just to satisfy this. I don't think he really is a particularly 'naturally creative ball player' in all honesty -- he's an instinctive player whose primary asset is his support play. Moylan for one is far more naturally creative even if he has been playing like AIDS all season and now not even in the halves anymore.

    I think I would honestly sooner pick Pearce again than pick Walker, and I really really don't want to pick Pearce again.

    The last few weeks he's started to show how good he can be. I've always doubted him, but he's finally delivering. We don't have enough depth in the outside backs to argue. It won't happen though we will end up with

    Fuck Munster is a gun. One of the best ‘stop-gap’ five-eighths I’ve seen. I’d be picking him for Qld. I don’t think he can be dropped for anyone other than Cherry-Evans or Morgan but he’s in shite form.

    If I wanted to pick a traditional halves pairing I'd probably be picking Green or Pearce.

    Like you said I think Cody plays on instinct, he's comfortable playing outside of structure, he's an excellent support player and there's always points around him when he carries the ball into the line. I just think that transfers over to SOO footy a lot better than picking a half whose doing a good job inside a club structure.

    I rate Moylan ahead of him as a talent I've just got no idea where that guys head space is at the moment, he obviously had a big falling out at the Panthers and just hasn't seemed to settle in at Cronulla yet.

    Lewis is such a random pick even ignoring the fact that you've already got Peachey on your bench. Love Luke Lewis but his days of Origin footy are long gone.
