Thrashing in the end, 56-20 to the Canes.

    Home playoffs here we come!!!!

You'd have to say the teams in the Top 6 will probably stay the same, just a matter of order. Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't change tbh.

  3. Droos JP Rhodes

    Massive game by the Canes.

  4. Rego RS Hutchinson

Bulls hard done by there - that was definitely a try. Went on to lose by 1 point.

  5. Rego RS Hutchinson

Well Tahs look good to win this now which means bye bye Saders :)

Glory days. The Cunterbury dominance is over! Didn't make it into the finals of the NPC last year and not in the playoffs for Super Rugby this year!!! You'd have to say the future doesn't look too bright for the side losing all those 10's + others.

I'm glad the Landers smashed the Blues, the Chiefs would have to beat the Canes by 37 points or more to finish above the Landers now. So home quarters for the Landers is pretty much a definite.

Is the Canes hooker their regular starter? Lineout's been awful tonight.

Unfortunately he is the AB starting number 2.

He is mediocre in the set piece and seems more focussed on scoring tries in the corner.

Haha wow. I'd assumed he was a token 'let's give the trusty back up an end of season game as we've already qualified' selection.

Good win that. How does the playoff system work for this - why are the Highlanders 4th when they have more points than 2nd and 3rd?

Conference system unfortunately. So the three conference winners are guaranteed to finish top 3 regardless of points.

Last year when the English toured - we got beasted up front in the scrum and Coles' lack of horsepower from a scrummaging perspective was embarrassing at times. Normally he is not this bad at servicing the line out. The other thing in his defence is that Retallick had no business winning some of the lineouts he was stealing tonight.
Brodie was named the IRB best player in the world last year and presently among locks at least he is the premier player in the world.

Still all those caveats said I have never been a fan of Coles and the way that he acts like a whore hanging out on the wing instead of trying to support the ball runner in tight at the ruck area is enough to make the front rowers of mooloo in particular, who I grew up admiring, turn in their proverbial graves.

Modern rugby has its place but so does doing the basics well.

Our front row is the weak link in the AB armoury. England probably are the best in the world in that dept. Unfortunately for England the importance of the front row is not particularly important.

The critical positions are numbers 7 and 8, and 9 and 10. Luckily we are well served in those departments and probably better than Most even if Ritchie is getting long in the tooth. He will turn up for the world cup.

Yep, NZ teams disadvantaged because of it, such a shitty system aimed towards Aus/ SA teams getting into the play offs and getting some form of home game. It's a BS system.

Had the Crusaders picked up one more bonus point along the way we'd be looking at having four NZ teams in the playoffs, which is frankly a bit ridiculous.

Indeed. Sorry probably could have used the like button.

Just shows how strong NZ teams are, if the conference system wasn't in place you'd probably see the Saders in there (as there wouldn't be 2 games against NZ teams). Honestly NZ teams are hard done by the system, it's clear that SANZAR is adapting to AUS/ SA's shitness.

What's with the Aus teams wearing superhero kits?

It's good for the game that it isn't all NZ teams. And all NZ finals in the past have been insulting to the other countries.

There hasn't been an all NZ final since 2006 though (fog final).

2006, 2003, 1999 and 1998 are the only years there has been an all NZ final....so it's not exactly a re-occurring issue or even an issue at all. NZ has always been predominant in the play offs though but even with the conference system against us, that's still the case.....
