Don't be ridiculous. He's the captain and needs to lead by example. That's what a captain does and is there for. Grabbing someone by the throat is not leading by example. I realise it's in the heat of battle, but he should be leading by example, that's what a captain should do. Not only a captain but a senior player. The younger players look up to him and will think that's a perfectly acceptable way to react, which is not right.

Not only that but to suggest that Sterling went in with that sort of intention is ridiculous. He is young and inexperienced, he went in to get the ball and made a mistake in the tackle. I'm not saying that it's not deserving of a red card, because as I said, it's not a great tackle and does deserve a red. He equally needs to learn that making those sort of mistakes isn't good.

You talk about these young players as if they're 5 year olds kids and easily influenced. They'll be 18+, they'll know it's not right to grab someone round the throat and if they don't, it says more about them than Valencia.

They are young men though, Valencia is surely a big figure in Ecuador, and people will look up to them. It's hardly a moot point. They will be pretty easily influenced as young footballers with no responsibility.

I dont even think the challenge deserved a red at all tbh. If Valencia didnt react its a yellow for sterling and nothing more is said

I don't really like how Wilshere responded tbh. Think he's a bit of a thug.

Nah wilshere was backing up his teammate. No problem with that at all

This happened five minutes before the incident. Pretty sure it's why Wilshere was so pissed off.

Wilshere's a sick cunt. Nothing wrong with what he did.

Thoughts on the new England captain?

I imagine it will go to Rooney... but I'm not sure who's the best choice

  15. GIMH GIMH Martyn

    Not Rooney.

I mean I think it will be but I would rather it wasn't.

Henderson IMO. Because I hate Wilshere and otherwise I would suggest him

Someone young who will be around for the next WC.

  16. PienaarColada DH Mulray

    Phil Jagielka.

Would be a good choice imo at least for 2016

  18. GIMH GIMH Martyn

Not even sure he should be in the side. Definitely not

Would probably go Hart just because he's about the only guy I have nailed on

  19. BoyBlunder BOY Blunder

He's the second best English CB behind Cahill for sure. He wasn't fully fit at the WC and that was apparent

  20. GIMH GIMH Martyn

The captain should be someone likely to play at the next WC

I'd hope we can replace jags by the euros
