Watching Craig Wing play for Japan in Union today, it made me think about all of the converts we've seen over the years.

But which of them has been the most successful across both codes? Who has enjoyed the most success transferring from League to Union or from Union to League?

Tricky question - and plenty of options

Shonny hands down. King amongst men.

  3. Black Toast Forever TG Bullpitt

Ben Kennedy played Union before league also.

    It's definitely not Tasesa Lavea.

  5. Andato BJT Manera

Brad Thorn presently but SBW not far off.

True. There's so many other players out there as well - I cut a load from the initial list I nabbed from Wikipedia to cut out most of the guys who weren't dual internationals.

Wendell Sailor must be one of the most successful. League World Cup winner in 2000, losing finalist in 2003. Same with Mat Rogers.

John Gallagher was never heard from again when he switched to league.

    Ray Price?

SBW was on the bench for the RWC 2011 and got a medal. Has a chance to make a league world cup final if they can bump off england.

SBW has also won a super 15 final.

I can't really think of a single successful Union to League convert, at least in the NRL. But the other way around have most all been huge successes, even a nobody like Berrick Barnes played for Australia in Union.

    Matthew Ridge?

Rocky Elsom a notable League ---> Union success too.

    Thorn.

Most of them came from the pre-professional era. There have been many successful union to league players, such as Stuart and Price.

I think a bad convert or at least an unsuccessful one will be Benji Marshall. I don't think any league player can step into the number 10 jersey. And his tackling isn't good enough to go into the centres.

    benji is just shit now.
